Re: Whats the best way to clean out a gas tank
Go to eastwood.com i think was the site. and they make a 3 atage kit that me and my dad used before. You put the first chemical stage in there and eats at the buildup, then flush it out with like a water hose, then the second stage is a neautralizer then you flush it out, and the third stage is like a sealer. Thats the best way. If you dont have time you can use one of those power washer type sprayers at those little pull in car washes. Just stick it in the tank and rinse til your content.

Re: Whats the best way to clean out a gas tank
i've used my pressure washer to get stuff loosened up first/then a solution of oxalic acid(swimming pool suppliy section) let soak half hour or so// then rise out with pressure washer again// drin and blow out with compressed air or exhaust from a shopvac
if extremely rusty ,i'd finish off with POR tank sealer

Re: Whats the best way to clean out a gas tank
Old school trick is to add some rocks to the empty tank, and to shake the tank to break loose anything that shouldn't be inside it. Of course, you should have already removed the pickup/sending unit. Oh, remove the rocks when you're done.

Was this the kit you were talking about NuttinSpecial?
I'm debating between that and taking it to a radiator shop. http://www.eastwood.com/por-15-fuel-...epair-kit.html |

I've heard of people using ice, because it melts and you can pour it out. I just take a piece of chain, put some bolts though it with nuts on them. Drop that down in there, and have a girl with big boobs shake it all around. |

Funny....my best friend did this and it worked AWESOME!! You can even use ceramic stones or some other media if the "rock" concept is hard to get past. |

I've seen it done with a short link of chain too ... drop it in along with the chemicals ... shake like hell ... dump it out.

Re: Whats the best way to clean out a gas tank
taking to a rad shop is the best bet. They don't boil them out, all that would do is clean the olf fuel and paint off, along with the protective coating in there originaly. It would leave the rust uneffected though. They'll probably use a steam cleaner and flush it for an hr, then either cut it open and gind the rist, or use the chemicals described already.
A new tank is an option, but not the best option. The replacement ones are thin, and don't bolt up properly. The original fits. |
