Some Days It's Just Not A Good Day To Work On The Truck
I knew I should'a stayed home today. Just felt it.
Last week, I got the rear trim on. I had a little problem with the upper center trim...right over the tail gate "opener". So, as I wrote before, I improvised. I wasn't really happy with it. But, the main thing was I wasn't real sure about trim back there anyway. So, I devised a way to use 3M trim tape instead of drilling holes for clips. That worked out really well...Maybe TOO well as it happens. Since it took me an hour to peel it all off today. I wanted to get the center upper trim right. So, I visited our friends at ECE and they found an OEM piece in their stash. They gave me the little clips that you shove into holes...Aieeee! HOLES!!!! Didn't want to drill holes. But I did. Long story short.....I went caveman when I couldn't get it right. So, you see what's left now. That ball of stuff is $30 worth of 3M tape. I now have holes up by the handle and no trim. Should'a stayed home. The first shot's the one I started with this morning.

Re: Some Days It's Just Not A Good Day To Work On The Truck
Should have just left it alone or stepped away or gone for a walk. It looked fine with the 3m. I have dicked around with stuff that looked fine and ended up in that position. You can't always be a perfectionist, but if you are, have the patience to back it. Just my opinion.

Did you use a heat gun to warm up the trim before pulling on it? It does wonders

Re: Some Days It's Just Not A Good Day To Work On The Truck
Hahahaha!!! When I put the tail light trim on, I was just mocking up the backup/tail lights. The first one was upside down.
So, for no real (good) reason, I put the second one on upside down, too. I'm taking Frkypunk70's suggestion and walking away from the tailgate for a while. Just enough to see if I can get "the patience to back it" up. ![]() I don't know what I'm going to do back there. But I do have a great way to stick the trim on now without drilling holes. Two runs of 7/8" 3M trim tape. One sits down in the channel and "backs up" ( ![]() the first and the paint. I used rubbing alcohol before sticking the trim on and let it dry very well before doing so. Never tried using the heat gun. Sounds like a good idea. Might go back to this.

Sorry about you're luck here, most of us have probably been in similar situations. I have to say, though, your taillights are sweet, where did you get the smoked lenses and how good does the red show through? Is it just a red bulb?

Re: Some Days It's Just Not A Good Day To Work On The Truck
The third pic (the one of the floor) is the trim after I pulled my Neanderthal move.
![]() The stuff you spray on the clear lenses is called "Nightshade". There may be other brands...But I got my can of it at O'Rileys. One light coat. I think that if you get too heavy-handed, it gets too dark pretty quick. I'm using a red "lcd" bulb in the stock socket. I'm using it on my front parking/turn signal lenses, too (w/amber bulbs).

Re: Some Days It's Just Not A Good Day To Work On The Truck
Don't have a full truck yet!!!! Still a pile 'o parts.
Almost ready to put the front clip back on. New grill coming next week. Bleed the brakes. Fill up the trans and power steering box. Then put the front clip in place.
