66 GMC Brake Question

I just picked up a 66 3/4, and the rear drum brakes seem to have froze up a little.....I went behind the brakes and banged on them a little and they released a little bit, but still seem to not be completely free yet......what and how to clean these up so that they roll free and clear. Some kind of cleaner or something like that!

did you notice a change in your pedal effort required? If they're still "kinda" stuck, go pump the pedal and let us know if it's hard as a rock or what. Could be a shot master cylinder, i.e. piston hung in the bore on some debris or something. May be some new pedal slop if this is the case, maybe not though.

When I went thru my brakes many years back, the backing plates had grooves worn into the pads where the shoe rides all the time, they had ridges that the shoes hung up on, took a stick welder and filled in the groves and used a four inch grinder to smooth them back out, new shoes and related parts made it like new again.

the pedal feels normal...not too soft and not hard to press either! It has sat for at least 1 1/2 to 2 years outside and figured it just rusted up in there or something. Cab had tarp over it, put not really over bed and rear wheels.
