Drop Spindle Clearence Headache
I bought some spindles off of CL. They are for a 73-87 c10 (I swapped in a 84 c10 front crossmember and assembly) and use the 1" rotors....
Heres the Problem: Im using a set of 15" steel 5 lug wheels from an 88 and up half ton and they are grinding on the steering arm. I put in a 5/16 wheel spacer and still i have the problem. I dont really want to go any bigger with a spacer. Anyone have any ideas?

Use 5-lug wheels for the 71-87's.
Use narrower van ralley wheels from 73-87. Trim the a-arm lip in conjunction w/the spacer for the current wheels.

Re: Drop Spindle Clearence Headache
The offset on 88+ wheels are too deep. With dropped spindles, it only magnifies the problem, since the wheel lip moves closer to the steering arm.
Either get different wheels or you're going to have to use bolt on spacers, likely about 1.5" ones.

Re: Drop Spindle Clearence Headache
But when you add spacers with that wide a wheel it will create its own set of problems with the fender lip when turning, I was planning on using a set of 5 x 5-15" x 7 van rallyes so everything would clear, the wide wheels are not a problem at the rear.....Kieth

Re: Drop Spindle Clearence Headache
Agreed, that is why I went with 15x7 slot mags instead of 15x8's. I didn't want to chance the clearance issues.
I think this becomes less of an issue with 17"+ size wheels as the lip is further away from the steering arm.

Re: Drop Spindle Clearence Headache
If the back-spacing is the same on a larger diameter wheel (vs. a 15" wheel), the contact will just be made in a different area. I had to trim the a-arm lip even w/18x8" wheels because they had 5.25"bs.
