Remove Front Wheel Wells without Fenders
I would like to remove the Front Wheel wells under the hood of my 1978 Silverado WITHOUT having to take the entire front end apart.
Is this possible?

yes it is i did this with my 1976 and my 1982. it is a bit of a pain tho to fit the old ones out and the new ones in.... just go easy and it will work

Re: Remove Front Wheel Wells without Fenders
My plan is to custom fabricate some new ones out of sheet metal. No curve, just some nice bends.
So hopefully that will make it easier to put them back in. My rationale behind this, is I'm getting some rust on my new fenders b/c of the crappy old wheel wells, so I want to just remove them.

It's not hard at all if you take the wheel off, gives you a good area to work with. I've had them just fall right out after taking the last bolt out, and I've had them fight me, just depends on the moon I guess.

+1 on the above statement...tIe the wheels off, remove the the bolts and nuts which connect the inner fender to outer and cab and the twisting, turning and prying.
Good luck. Posted via Mobile Device |

I did it with the tire on. Just drop it, then rotate it out.
If you are driving around with nothing there it is gonna make a huge mess under the hood.

The folks on this forum rock hard-core! :-)
Nerphin: I don't intend to drive it without one. I just want to get at the rust spot on the fender and make sure it doesn't rust anymore. Ideally, I would like to fabricate some simple, angular replacements out of sheet metal.

Ya I did it with my 20s on the truck without even jacking the thing up.

I wish I had that on video. I am guessing there was some involved.

Re: Remove Front Wheel Wells without Fenders
Did it a while back on my 75. There's like around 11 bolts per side (cant remember exactly) but its way easier if you jack it up and remove your wheels.
