New Guy living in Pineville, Louisiana

Hey Y'all,

First things first my name is Travis, 38, gainfully employed with the US Government, and I just bought a 1965 C10 with Big Back Glass, Short Fleetside, Factory in dash A/C, V8, and powerglide. I was driving up to Nashville over Labor Day Weekend and I made a wrong turn and got lost. Thank God I took that wrong turn because at the end of that dead end road was this C10 Truck. It was the one I had always wanted. When I was 14 I bought my first C10 which was a 1965 with a short stepside bed, but I always pined for a C10 with large back glass and short fleetside bed. I stopped to ask the guy for directions to Nashville from Lawrenceburg. I also asked him if he wanted to sell the truck. It was a sore subject for the man because the truck was his son's truck but his son had died tragically 2 yrs ago. He wanted to keep the truck but the truck reminded him of his son and he did want to sell the truck. I asked him how much he wanted for the truck and he said wanted $1500. I asked him if he had the title and he went into the house and got it. I went to the ATM to give him a deposit and then went to the bank that saturday morning to get the rest of the cash.

So I may have paid too much for the truck but it is really straight with very little rust. The magnet I had stuck almost every part of the truck with the exception of the lower front fenders which y'all know is common and a small spot on the door. The man and his wife asked me to send them pics when I am finished with the truck and I agreed.

I plan on making this truck my project for the next 2-3 yrs to get it to the point where it is my daily driver...Why fix them up if you ain't gonna drive it..right? I will take pics this weekend and put them up here.

I will not be chiming in very much but I will be reading a lot here and probably copying some of what y'all have done to your trucks. Well happy trails and thanks for accepting me into this forum.

Travis

Re: New Guy living in Pineville, Louisiana

Ok Folks I wanted to wish y'all a Happy Thanksgiving and I hope each of you got your fill yesterday on Turkey, Ham, Brisket, Stuffing, and all the trimming that come with a Thanksgiving Feast.

I finally had a little bit of time waiting for the Cowboys game to come on yesterday (that's right I am a Cowboys fan) so I went outside and took some pics of my 1964 C10 Pickup. So here they are for your enjoyment to look at.

Re: New Guy living in Pineville, Louisiana

When I first introduced this truck I thought it was a 65 and had factory A/C but i was looking at so many at the time I guess my brain melded some trucks together and I forgot some of the details. The truck is a 1964 BBW Short fleetside with a V8 and Powerglide. The gentleman I bought my truck from said his son put a muncie M21 four speed in the truck but it still has the automatic linkage and steering column. The man did include the 4 spd with the truck in the sale. I also got an extra hood which you see laying in the back of the truck along with 2 extra fiberglass fenders.

I thought the truck came with an original 283 or 327 V8 however the block is a 1974-75 350 4 bolt main block. Oh well it was included with the sale and big deal it doesn't have the original motor but I also got the powerglide with the truck.

In addition the truck still had all of it's stainless/aluminum side molding. I may look at just polishing that out side the repo stuff is like $350 from LMC.

In the engine bay one can see that the gentleman that owned the truck had spent a little bit of $$ for the master cylinder. CaptFab I will be contacting you in the next few months to get some of your fabricating products for P/S and I will probably be going with Hydro assist to stop this monster.

I also got a 1975 12 bolt rear so it has the 5 lug pattern. I don't know the ratio but that is something that I will find out soon. The truck also has the 6 lug Rally Wheels which I will not be keeping. So I will have those wheels up for sale in the future as well.

Sorry to ramble on an on but I wanted to get some pics up so y'all could see my starting point. I am not a body or paint man so I would like some recommendations on a good shop to get the body work and paint done at. Ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

V/R,

Travis
