To spare or not to spare!
I just started building my 1959 Apache after a few year hiatus. I had all the parts painted but the painter was fired and when he left the shop he took a few of my parts with him, never to be found again. This was a blow to my motivation and I put my project on hold. I have since replaced a few parts and refound my motivation to complete my build. I recently found two rear fenders in great condition but the driverside has the groove and bracket for the side spare tire. I wanted to shave the doors and remove all emblums from the side for a smooth look. WIll the side spare take away from that look. I am looking for some opinions on having the side spare or not. Pix would be nice as well.
Also if anyone in Los Angeles or surrounding areas has any 55-59 doors (these were also stolen by painter) with no cancer rust that would like to get rid of them please send me info. Thanks everyone! |

no spare!!! i like the fenders without the spare ,i think since you wanna shave the rest go without the spare. thats more for a stock look.

Re: To spare or not to spare!
I like the spare look just because 1) you don't see them that much and 2) you have to put it somewhere, especially if you move the tank to the back and 3) you can show off the wheel and cap (if you go that way). I've got a Fleetside so will just build a mount into the custom storage box I will eventually build in the bed. Off road I usually carry two.

DUMP THE SPARE on the stepside! (Sorry Orrie, I just hat those things...)
BUT, you make a very good point - it's gotta go somewhere if there's a rear tank.... |

hah just kidding.. but seriously, dont use a fender spare... good luck on the doors! i'm searching for a pair myself... $1000 plus shipping is just soo much to spend on repop doors that will likley need alterations :-( i guess I should just shut up and be happy that they even MAKE the doors, if it ever came to that... |
