front crossmember

so i know alot of of you dont care for having the front crossmember on the gorund, but i was just wondering what you have to do to get the memeber on the floor? that is about how low i wanna go and i really dont have the cash to buy an after market front member. i really wanna get my truck as low as possible i have a full bag setup and plan on putting it all on just need a few tips on how to get the maximum drop. any pics or advise would be great...

235/75r15 they are coker american classic white walls and steel wheels and it is a 70' c10 longbed.

235-75-15's = /< 29" tall.
3" drop spindles & bags on trimmed down cups should plant the a-arms on the ground.

and can i use the factory 2 link and just plate it to make it stronger with a c -notch and replace the factory springs with bags? also how big of a c- notch around a 10",thanks for your help.

My lcas are about 2" from hitting the ground fully aired out. I have 2 1/2" drop spindles, my tires are just a hair over 29" tall and the cups are cut as far as they can be. It is a blazer and all, but still a 2wd so that shouldn't make a big diff. The only way for me to get the x-mbr on the ground is to now mess with the lca's (outside of the after market mbr).

Over 29" & less than 29" means being closer to the ground = more drop. Depending on how much over you are over & how much he is under could be up to an inch.

What's limiting your travel?

The tire charts show my tire size is 29.1" tall (265/35/22). I could't see anything holding me up from going lower. The bag was fully compressed, and there's about a 1/8th of an inch between the tire and the fender (I don't have inner wells).

I'm going off of memory because it's been on stands for a few months now, but I do know that my long tube headers didn't even hit the floor (maybe 1/8th of an inch from it though) fully aired out.

I'm not trying to say your wrong or anything Scoti...but more trying to figure out if I can get a little lower because I did something wrong. Once back together, I can check if my shocks are limiting the drop, but I don't think I put them on at 1st. Do the upper bj's have a tendency to bind?

I would thnk either shocks or BJ's might have been possibly limiting you. I know my old 74 was <3" off the ground @ the a-arm shaft w/27" tall tires (static dropped). If there were bags, I could have easily laid the x-member out even w/a slightly taller tire.

I thought there was a difference between 67-72's and later gens with how low they got. I thought I read that 73+'ers lay arms with little effort but the for some reason the 1st gens don't. That's the only reason I never thought about looking into anything binding after the bag install.

Definitely possible. I know both my 68 Beater & the 74 were set up very similarly (3" spindles & 1-coil cut). The 68 had more ground clearance but looked lower visually (not by much).

my sway bar and shock are holding me up a bit. I am sure the bj angle is not helping me at all either. Im laid out in the rear and about 2-3 inches shy of it up front myself.
