70 2wd blazer going back together
I took it down for a motor swap..the 90 454 motor with TBI heads jusr sucked gas..4mpg..and it had to go..
I bought a 1990 454SS truck with a blown 350 in it for cheap..so i put the gas hog 454 in it,with a th400 and sold it.. Now its in with the 70 LS5 454 out of a chevelle..and a 5speed out of a 90 chevy truck..so it will be driven on the highway for those long trips.. |

Re: 70 2wd blazer going back together
got some more done today..driveshaft is in..I had one here the right length..45.5 inches..
I also used the 90 trans crossmember and had to drop the trans mount down 1/2 inch (due to being lowered to the ground) also had to cut out floor pan for large bolt on hump...but it was easy.. wont be long now..a few more hours and it will be alive again. I got the big block 67-71 mounts at knoxville pullapart for $8.00 lol it had a 460 ford motor shoved under the hood of a 71 truck..I found a driveshaft and moved that motor and got them out..best part i ever found there Nothing like a big block...then a LS5 with stock gm domed pistons. (std bore) .and a few mods to get 450 hp out of it.. |

Re: 70 2wd blazer going back together
motor is set to the rear..big block mounts go in the rear lower holes..just as it would be in a truck.
I will be getting more pics soon...the NV3500 1990 5speed was a little big heights wise, has to go to large floor hump.. now i can run a fan shroud thats its in stock location. |

Re: 70 2wd blazer going back together
Did you drill holes into the cross member for the front lower mounting position or did you only use the rear holes?

I used small block 67-72 mounts with 2 small block crank bolt washers and they worked just fine. you can get the 67-71 big block rubber mounts but they are pricey. More pics over the weekend as i am about to fire it up and drive it out. clutch line and clutch master cyl. need to be made..and exhaust fixed..then its ready. |
