march serpentine
I have the march serpentine belts with an electric water pump. When i have the rpm's up over 6500, it wants to throw both belts. How tight should i have these belts? Also, mabey serpentine belts are not designed to be spinning close to 7k rpm? Any ideas? thanks

I can't tell from your photos where your tensioner pulleys are located. Are you using a kit specific to an electric water pump? I had to run an extra tensioner pulley on a previous engine with an electric water pump to make up for the absence of the water pump pulley.

yea im using a kit, but it didn't come with tensioner pulleys. Just adjust the ps pump and the alternator by the brackets which have an adjustable bolt on them.. I noticed when its idiling, the belts seam to jump around on the back side of the belts, but the top part of the belts look smooth and are not jumping around at all... Hard to explain

So, it sounds like you have a dual groove crank pulley kit for two separate belts - one belt for the alternator and another belt for the PS pump? That kit usually has the alternator side of the system driving the water pump pulley. If this is the kit you have, I am pretty sure you'll need at least one tensioner pulley for the alternator belt side to stabilize the belt since the pulley ratio is significantly higher than the PS pump pulley side. As an example, here is a comparison of the March systems I've used:
This one is the standard kit and uses the belt-driven water pump This is the modified kit for an electric water pump...note the extra tensioner pulley on the alternator side to make up for the absence of water pump pulley

Man that kit with the vacuum pump is exactly what i'm wanting when i put ac and a vacuum pump on... I'm going to call march and see if they sell a tensioner for both belts...

69TRK - I am also running a MARCH setup but have a standard water pump and I am having an issue with the power steering beltcoming off also. Very upset since this type of belt is suppose to be so much better at staying on. I have hydroboost, so when I loosemy belt it SUCKS, very little braking ability and no steering. I think I have it fixed then next thing I know I loose it again

I'm running March pulleys also and had to get a timing belt tensioner puller to keep the belt stable.
I also went to the gator back belts. The dang aluminum pulleys are slick.

I have the exact same set up including the water pump...I'd hit a 8k rev limit and never throw a belt.
I did have to do some grinding to get this set up to lin up right though. Double check bolt lenght and the stands against the pump. IIRC, there was one of the bolts going through hitting the cylinder wall and was not tight (only one was holding). Have you had a water leak yet? |

I am using march pulleys but with Revmax brackets. I am using a preform water pump. also using gator back belts. I will be testing it out this weekend. I also used a straight edge to insure pulley alignment. I will let you know how it works. I got my belts as tight as I could.

With March pulleys I had issue with PS pump. Hard to get tight I have gatorback belt on alt no issue non gatorback on PS and it will slip sometimes.
