SBC Oil Pan Differences

The engine is currently out of my '71 Blazer 4x4 for a rebuild, and my machine shop pointed out that the oil pan has a longer deep section (10" as shown in the attachment) than the oil pan in my '72 LWB 4x2 (8" as shown in the attachment). The Blazer has no original engine parts anymore, and the LWB 4x2 has had some things changed so I can't vouch for either oil pan being correct.

1) What size oil pan is original for a SBC in these trucks?
2) What is the oil capacity of each of these pans?

Re: SBC Oil Pan Differences

Not sure about the first question. Your service manual will have capacities for several different years for two wheel and four wheel drives.

Re: SBC Oil Pan Differences

My 1972 factory Service Manual has less clarity than I seek. On page 0-8 it states all engines other than the 292 L6 require 4 quarts in the pan and 1 quart in the filter (AC PF-35).

The engine sits farther back in the 4x4 leaving more room for oil pan.

I looked under a 1977 Impala with an original 350 tonight; it has the 8" pan and uses the room between the pan and the crossmember for the exhaust Y-pipe.
