Has anyone investigated using a factory GM rear disc assembly from a 99 to 07 Silverado 1500 in a 60 -66 truck?

Any good guess as to the width WMS to WMS & axle tube diameter?

What about just using the mounting plates, calipers & rotors & hoses?

How does the parking brake work on these rears?

Not a great picture but shows the parts & pieces.

I would think that would be a great option. I went with a Caprice cop car rear because it was 5x5 like my front and was $50 on CL.

Looks like a decent option, whats the lug pattern on those? If you can swap the whole rear and keep the disc, great..but I don't know if it would be good for swapping just the brakes.

The parking brake is a "mini" drum type setup with 1 long shoe. I'm not sure on the width, but I would bet is quite a bit wider than your stocker.

Those newer rear ends are about 3-3.5" wider than the '63 to early '70 rear ends. As ironcrossmike said, they use a shoe assembly inside the rotor for the e-brake. The brake assemblies will not bolt onto a truck 12 bolt, without a good amount of modification.

I am looking at doing a gear change (4.11 to 3.42), add posi & add rear disc all in one easy low cost package. I am already running 17" wheels from a 2001 Suburban with 2" spacers on each side.

I have been watching these on CL & they seem to go as low as $200, generally $3-400. This rear seems to much easier to find than the F-body, Caprice or S-10 ZR-2 rear.

I still need to get a better handle on the overall width but I'm thinking that with some grinder time & extra set of saddles, this could be the correct asnwer for me.

I've seen one truck that had this rear axle. I didnt ask much about it but the guy said the biggest problem was the width. I've considered this too, but would probably change the studs to have the same SAE thread type front and rear.
