What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
I didnt do too much truck related. I used the truck this week to haul alot of garbage off of my sites, and on monday I got the go ahead to bring her into the body shop so shes gonna get her new cab corners, rockers, bed repairs and full paint. I still havent figured out what color(s) to make it..
Im also kicking around the idea of getting a CUCV pickup to use for a work /hunting truck beater So how about you all?

Re: What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
Went junk yarding yesterday. Got another steering column to use the parts to rebuild a column my brother shortened for me. Also found a camaro with a TPI manifold intact and got the runners and fuel rail so we can polish them without having the truck out of commision. Noticed in my column hunt that the boxy Jeep cherokees use a GM style column and an internet search shows that parts from it can actually be used in our trucks to improve our steering.

Painted some parts for the stepside bed, put on new wheel arch moldings. Went home early and spent the afternoon with my baby daughter

I put a new EGR valve on the truck. The old one was bad. The nuts that were holding it on were so loose they came off with out using a wrench.

I installed my drivers side gas tank, hooked it up, and ran some gas through it with no problems.

Started cleaning up the garage after 3 years of being out of it. Started troubleshooting an electrical (starting) issue on my '86 Jimmy DD. Preparing for a restart on my '57 Stepper build.

Re: What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
I went for a nice drive across the river (to the USA) down to Bliss NY. its a beutiful drive and it made me want to move lol
I picked up some 16.5 33's for the crew cab for 20 bucks off CL and i saw he was stripping a 95 z71 Well my front actuator went bad a month or so ago on my 94 6.5 z71 so i figured id ask he says it works and whatta give me for it I said 10 and he hands me some Channel locks I was about to leave all i had was another twenty so i left with a set of tow hooks 2. on my way home i hit harbour frieght for a compression tester and some junk, Now i can find the problem with that damn crewcab. I call that a real good day FYI if you rust free southerners have some worn out crap bring it up north cus up here any non running rotted half ton is aparently worth 1200 and more if it can run while it knocks, even the parts stores are bad, a starter is 175 new and a good gasket set runs $160, We need an Uprising or a mutiny or a kick in the butt or something we'll pay anything especially 13 % taxes, fuel is 1.20 a litre or 4.53 a gallon diesel is worse and a dollar menu from mcdonalds is 1.79 up here its assinine Sorry I'll stop ranting its just been building for a while

Re: What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
Finally got around to re-working the "shop logo" on my 50. A friend of mine does vinyl signs and cut some vinyl stencils I used to paint on the new logo. I still need to wet sand everything to knock down the gloss. Also want to add some sort of design in the middle, probably a Maltese cross. The paint used was basic rattle can Dupli-Color tan.

Put the crank in my 250 short block. Started working on it in August, between kids and job...
Have to do rear brakes on my 87, but started looking and noticed the pinion is wet. Time to rebuild another axle. Darn it!

Re: What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
Filled the gas tank up to full. Drove the truck 32 miles. Filled it up to overflowing. It used 1.3 gal. I got 24 miles per gal. No head wind, or tail wind. I got 19 MPG before I put the new EGR valve on the truck. A speed radar sign on the road said I was going 65 miles per hour. My speedometer said I was going 67 miles per hour. My rear tire size is 255/70R15. I figure I am getting about 22 to 23 miles per gallon. The engine is a 305 with TBI, and overdrive trans. What do you think?

Re: What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
Let's see... I fixed my dome light and it is working great! I replaced my tail light bulbs because both of them went out at the same time... I thought it was my wiring and was freaking out when I first found out. Also got my wiper fluid sprayers to start working up again but one of them is plugged up... Easy fix tho. I'll unclog it soon enough. Since my lighter plug is still not working I decided to try to find a replacement but was unable to. I gave up and rather just mount a new one under the dash. The old one is part of the ash tray and it closes up anyways... When it is open, there is a big thing sticking out of the dash for the ash tray / lighter so screw that... I'll mount the one under my dash soon enough with the help of my father. He is the best person I know when it comes to electrical work and I know he will do it right. What else? Well I was going to get a new radio but I've been unable to find an actual way to mount any since the mounting, cover and the radio itself in mine is completely gone. If anything I will need to make a metal rig that will bolt down somewhere and hold the radio up. For now I put a very high quality boombox in the back of my seats plugged into my ipod connected via a 12foot cable that I can even reach outside of my truck so I can change songs while hanging in my bed. In all honestly, this setup is awesome! The speakers on the boombox actually come off from the sides and are connected by a cable for both. I simply put a speaker under each seat. The middle is behind my middle seat and I can reach back and turn it on/off and still put CDs in just fine... Great sound quality!

Re: What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
I got $40 dollar 3'' holes drilled in the side of my bed right before the tank for flush mount exhaust
$40 dollars because one 3'' holesaw and a seperate chuck for said wholesaw cost me 40 dallars from crapsman at sears, two holes and it wen, dull great investment....

Re: What did you get done 11/20/2011 edition
Started wrapping up some of the hard engine bay items in my TPI intake swap onto a Vortec engine. The hard items this weekend were:
*Clearance throttle body to clear water neck *Route fuel lines and attach to hardlines at frame *Bolt on upper intake *Fabricate intake pipe *Stare at engine for a couple hours trying to figure out how the heck to make things work. |
