tailgate window chrome dohickey
I have no idea what to call this thing. It's the chrome chunk you put your key in to roll the tailgate up or down. Not the tumbler itself, but the wonderful pot metal thing GM gave us to hold the tumbler.
I am wrapping up the suburban, paint is done Have everything else assembled, and the powder coat guy called me about this doohickey and said he can't do it. He sandblasted part of it and the pits/bumps in the chrome were base metal issues. I am in new england and due to the recent wonderful scrap prices the last two suburbans I was going to use as backup donors were crushed. Are there any options to getting this pock marked pot metal turd to look decent? Even the paint shop said bondo or glaze wouldn't stick very well. Anyone have a clean one laying around to save me the headache? |

Re: tailgate window chrome dohickey
It's called an "ESTUNCHEON" and they are fairly cheap price-wise from LMC. Besure to order a new rubber gasket for it as well. The part is still availible through your local dealership as well for about 5 times the price of one from LMC.
I got mine from them and had it powdercoated "HAMMERBLACK" 3 years ago and it still looks great.
