help with my 72 4x4?
i have a lot of questions, most are probably just no briners for you folks here, but this is my first attempt at a restoration. i just got my 72 about 2 months ago and it seems like the right time to park it and work on it for a while. my first question,is there a kit to swap a 700 r4 in and keep my 205 t case? it has a th 350 now,and my gas mileage is killing me. will i have to cut or lengthen my drive lines if i were to put one in? its pretty much factory except the new ring and pinion and posi as far as i know. just a 12 bolt and 44. also looking for around a 4 inch lift kit, wheres a cheap place to look? NOT 4 wheel parts.

I am sure there are examples of that swap on this forum. I suggest you do a search.
As far as lift kits cheap, look for a used one on here or Rough Country has about the lowest prices for new springs up front and blocks for the rear. Posted via Mobile Device |

I would also suggest doing a search. I believe that the 700R is a little longer than a 350, but they both have the same bolt pattern. Which means you can use the same 205 adaptor for the 700R. As for lift kits, look on craigslist or search ebay. Personally I prefer procomp lifts. They are the softest ride I have ever had with a lift.

Re: help with my 72 4x4?
i've looked around craigslist, but everything with in 2 hours of me is pretty much toyota dominated. im still planning as using it as my tow rig when race season comes around so im wanna avoid going with softer springs. would using 2 inch blocks in the front and rear still be safe for towing? also having the thought of going 8 lug since i have a 1 ton dually parts truck. is a dually rear end the same width as a regular? i would think id have to change the brakes over from the backing plate out. right?

Block are fine for the back, but extremely unsafe for the front. Dually axles are wider than srw axles. I actually enjoy running a drw axle in the rear.

Re: help with my 72 4x4?
well the dually is a 2wd so id have to find a 60 for the front. but if i were to use the dually rear, would swapping to the srw brakes and what not make it the same width? or are the axle tubes longer?

Re: help with my 72 4x4?
its the axle tubes that are longer, not the hubs and brakes.

Re: help with my 72 4x4?
how much wider is it? if its not goofy wide i wouldnt mind running it,but would i need a front axle to swap from a dually to keep the front wider or are the fronts the same width on dana 60's? i plan on eventually swapping to a f.i. big block and 4l80e so im pretty dead set on ditching the half ton axles to start with
