Re: Still need halp :/

First off since you pulled the plug wires and forgot where they went go ahead and pull them all off, Im assuming you can crank the motor over with the key, so if thats the case pull the #1 spark plug and wad up a small piece of paper towel so it plugs up the spark plug hole, have someone bump the key a few times while you watch the paper wad until it shoots out of the hole(might have to do this a couple times to get it right) once your confident you seen it shoot out , you should be on compression stroke the take a socket and breaker bar and turn the motor over by the crank nut untill you line the timing tab pointer up with the "TDC" mark on your harmonic balancer(when the paper shoots out the timing mark should be close to coming around to the timing tab make sure when bumpping the key you dont over shoot the timing mark past the timing tab)....pop the cap off the distributor and see where the rotor is pointing,if its not pointing at where the #1 spark wire post on the cap(see diagram to where #1 is at,or sometimes #1 is marked on the cap inside or outside) then loosen the hold down for the distributor and reset the distributor in so the rotor is facing where #1 should be then snug the hold down up to where you still can move the distributor by hand. Chevy 350 engines are notorious ,if they sat for any length of time without being started to foul the spark plugs and they wont fire,so since you have all the wires off it would be best to buy new spark plugs and make sure they are gapped right with a gapping tool(not always gapped right from out the box)and replace your spark plugs.....then wire the spark plug wires as showed in the picture(see diagram)...then pull the wire that goes to your "HEI" distributor and take a test light probe and have someone turn the key all the way to "START" and make sure theres power, then have them turn it to just the "ON" position and make sure theres power...if so then rehook up the wire(If you dont have power then you need to find out why).....This should make your engine start...you might have to turn the distributor back and forth a little to get it to fire but not much...once your engine starts then use a timing gun and time your engine and the tighten down the distributor.....

If it still dont fire you will want to make sure the coil in the cap of the "HEI" is good and your getting spark from the distributor down to thee spark plugs....

Hope this Helps.......

Re: Still need halp :/

My question is ....how was it running prior to you getting into it? Did it run fine prior or were you trying to fix something?
