Just wanted to say thanks!!!

I found this forum after picking up a project started by someone else. The PO started with a 1954 truck and put it on a standard cab S-10 frame that he stretchrd. When I bought the truck it was just sitting on the frame and was in a lot of pieces. I had boxes of original parts not knowing what I had or didn't have. Once I got it home I decided to start hand stripping the truck since it was so old and spent most of it's time in Ohio I didn't want to have it blasted. I quickly realized that the truck wasn't in as good of shape as I had originally thought. The roof was caved in right above the doors and with the inside bracing in the cab you couldn't tell from the inside, I went in search of a replacement 54 roof to only realize because of the short time the 54 was made that nobody I can find repoped a 54 or 55 1st series truck roof. So I let the project sit for a couple of months deciding whether to sell my dream and find another one or start fixing what I have. I was deflated by the truck and the work it was going to take to fix it. Then I found this forum and I must say there are some nice how to guides and projects on here, hell there are a lot worse looking trucks on here for starters and have been brought back to live so what was I worried about. I have talked to a lot of you on the forum or via PM and I just wanted to take the time to say thanks for motivating me to get back on my dream. I have learned a lot by just reading your progress and stories, I have ask a lot of questions and you guys have always been quick with responses. I will continue to ask questions and will start to post pictures once I start to make some progress worth showing. It is great that people from different parts of the country and all walks of life can come together and help each other out. I always come here when I need my fix on my car addiction, I look forward to showing you guys my progress and hopefully meet some of you along the way as I can talk cars all day long.

54foster, Sometimes you just need to take a break and try not to get to discouraged. Stick with it and everything will work out. There are alot of great people on here and I know there are a lot less parts for the 54-55 trucks. If you ever need everything just ask and I will try to help.

Shannon,

Thanks the one that kinda got my back onto this was seeing the 54 that you did. Honestly without reading over some of the things on this website not sure I would have every got back on the truck. I am pretty dangerous around a car mechanically and body work wise, but I thought it was too much for me. Until I started looking around here and finding answers to a bunch of problems I have or was going to have.

54foster,

Most of us come on this site because we are car nuts who live and breathe this stuff. We love to see projects and offer help and encouragement. We don't like to see someone give up, but we know it happens. I agree with Shannon ask your questions and the people on this site are more than happy to help. We want to see you finish your project.

Kabwe,

I have looked over your thread and I'm very impressed with your metal work. I hope mine is half as good as yours. Thanks for the inspiration I have collected a lot of pieces for the truck and I'm slowly starting to work on in. I have had it almost a year now and I'm just about ready to start working on it daily until it gets built. I would say finished not sure that is every true.

I had my truck 7 years and I've been working on it seriously for about 4 1/2. So your not alone my friend.lol I now tell myself "its gets done when I'm done, and I'm not rushing anything or I will be disappointed". Plus I really enjoy being creative and the building process. After the truck I will completely take my 55 car apart and redo everything that should have been done the first time. I hope my wife does not read this.lol

Yeah I'm not sure I can wait 7 years, you my friend are a very patient person. I would love to be driving the truck this year sometime, not sure that is doable or not. I just got the air ride in so I will be starting that soon, and the motor and trans are siting on the ground in front of the truck and I still need to go through it. So I'm sure it will take longer then I want it to.

I can't blame you for that.lol But I did and have the 55 Sedan to ride around in. Now I really want to finish the truck because I want to redo the car. I will not touch the car until the truck is at least on the road. I can't have two cars down at the same time.

Post some pics of your project when you get a chance.
