Shorty Headers
Does anyone know if these will fit 73-87 swap?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-04-YUKON-...item3a6941defa I'm not sure if the link will work or not |

Re: Shorty Headers
Header choice depends on position of the motor/trans choice. IMO from what I can see, the position of the flange might interfere with the frame.
Besides that, ebay stainless exhaust is usually....garbage. It holds more true with turbo manifolds than anything else, but even with cheap headers, the heat cycling tends to crack the cheap stainless and often questionable welds. I do like that its being sold by someone named IloveTACOTACO tho....classy.

Re: Shorty Headers
Why not get the long tube headers that fit your application:

Re: Shorty Headers
I'm trying to find a less expensiive header that will work. If it is listed for a different vehicle and not a swap I think it would be cheaper

Re: Shorty Headers
Cheaper than $550 shipped for a header that fits without ANY modifications.
Once you think you have found a set you want to try let me know, I will be more than happy to send you a quote.

Re: Shorty Headers
lol Shon, you work that Gold Vendor status hard.
terry, if you buy something new he'll get you setup. If you're trying to keep costs down, you might try some early f-body manifolds. They are the individual tube manifolds and have more clearance than the newer ones, you may still have to modify them a bit. I've seen them run in swaps, but can't confirm they'll be direct fit on your swap.

Re: Shorty Headers
Found these. They look just like hooker's manifolds that should be coming out any day now.
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Tru-Ra...hed,53711.html and here's the unpolished ones: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Tru-Ra...isplayId=53711 I'm thinking these would be perfect fit. |

Re: Shorty Headers
for what those cost, you really are better off with the DT headers. Performance for the money would be better, and no questioning the fit.

Re: Shorty Headers
i found some 2010 f-body manifolds here. Looks like it'd be around $250 after shipping.
http://www.gmpartsshop.com/?i=2&make...n=7&type=parts not sure if that link will pull up the exact parts. Just put in 2010 for the year and all the other good stuff. Should pull them up. |

Re: Shorty Headers
Turns out, i have some f-body manifolds i got off a blown up motor a friend gave before he moved last summer. I just bolted 'em up on my '85 and they fit perfect....tons of room. If you need any measurements off these manifolds let me know. The SN's are: 12611640 and 12611641. I google'd them and it looks like they're about $83-$100 a piece.
I had originally started notching the passenger side frame for the truck manifolds but then stopped when i realized the driver's side was gonna be a lot worse to pipe up due to it sticking outward instead of rear-of-truck-ward. Driver's side frame is not notched in these pics (stock) Last edited by Ranger6202; 01-30-2012 at 09:16 PM. |

Re: Shorty Headers
How close is your engine to the firewall? Did you use just a stock engine mount and a 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick adaptor plate? It looks like the f body exhaust exits more pointed down then the truck exhaust which would give me the room I need

Re: Shorty Headers
my heads are like 1/4-1/2" off the firewall. Originally i guess this truck had a diesel in it some # of owners ago. Somebody put a 350 in it which was still in it when i bought it. The distributor used to be right against the firewall, so i'm guessing the 350 itself was set a little further back than normal. The adapter plates i bought have the 3 choices for placement, and i had to use the 1" back to get it to mount up with the stock mounts. I'm pretty sure i could go 1" forward over stock and these manifolds would still fit in the gap perfectly. The clever idea i had with the mounts having three options was for when i get a 4l80 put in it, i won't have to change my drive line and can just move the motor forward with the mounts.

Re: Shorty Headers
Measured the manifolds, the farthest they stick out from the cylinder heads looks to be 3-3.5". And thats not counting the flange, thats just the straightway where all the tubes come in. Both flanges seem to stick out about 5-5.5" at their farthest from the flat flange on the back of the block that bolts to the tranny. The driver's side flange hangs down 6.5-7" and the passenger side hangs down about 7-7.5" from the center of the last manifold to cylinder head bolt.

Re: Shorty Headers
my 6.0 came with edelbrock shorty headers which fit perfect on the drivers side and hit a little on passenger after hitting with a hammer a little bit i massaged it to fit because i refuse to notch my frame and a little dent in the header is fine, my motor is sitting actually all the way against the firewall i have to scoot it forward a tad and the shorties come out... in a perfect location for me also im using dirty dingo ls swap mounts but no ac compressor as that was a problem ill fix later
