Regular bed to Cameo bed, Whats involved
I've got a project in mind for a daily driver but i want the Cameo style bed. Now I can't afford a true Cameo truck but can I make any step-side into a Cameo bed with the correct parts??

Re: Regular bed to Cameo bed, Whats involved
from what I know they dont reproduce the chrome rear bumper parts but there are companies that reproduce fiberglass bed sides, a fiberglass rear bumper and I think the rear tailgate skin. With enough money you can get it together but there are a ton of parts/pieces that will add up the bed sides are at least $350 each before shipping.
This place has a whole cameo 'kit' apparently for $4000 way expensive... TrucksandRoadsters cameo kit That kit includes almost a $700 price for the sides... Classic industries carries reproduction sides for $350 each... Classic Industries Cameo bed side either way, its a couple thousand bucks easy to find the parts you need. they are nice trucks though! but I would probably find a short fleet box and put it on first, the fleet actually could utilize the bedspace, whereas the cameo used a stepside box and had a HUGE fiberglass cover to the sides, silly really... But man they look nice! Good luck whatever you choose |

even converting a bed will be expensive. alot of the parts especially the die cast parts and trim are not reproduced and expensive when you do find them.

Re: Regular bed to Cameo bed, Whats involved
All Cameo bed parts are reproduced, but very expensive! For instance, the stainless steel strips that run down the top are $600! You could do a Cameo bed and forget some of the expensive parts, or just have them airbrushed on, like the side trim if you wanted to go for the 57-8 look, this would be way less expensive then the repo pieces. The rear bumper is around $400 for the center section, then the bumperetts for each side are several hundred more. When its all said and done, you could have actually purchased a true Cameo! I'll sell ya mine if the price is right!
BTW, here are the bumper ends before I start getting hated on $675. http://www.classicparts.com/1955-58-...ctinfo/65-098/ Last edited by azsnow; 02-05-2012 at 02:44 AM. |

The factory assembly manual shows all the parts, big and little, that are needed for the Cameo bed. Good $20 investment if you are working on these trucks.

Oh got it...let me look at my resources and see what I can find. Seems there was a place that sold the entire trim kit, but can't remember if you could buy the pieces individually or if you hade to buy the entire trim.

Re: Regular bed to Cameo bed, Whats involved
Here is a set of parts on eBay...not sure what his reserve price is, but with everything needing to be refurbished, I wouldn't go more than $900
