4x4 Front End Rebuild
I need to replace the ball joints on the front of my 78 Jimmy. Still has the original non greaseable joints and it is getting scary to drive. I have done more 2wd than I can count, just never tackled a 4wd. How hard is it to do?. What would a shop would charge. Sometimes it sure is nice to just drop it off and pick it up all done. Just wondering if it is worth my time to attempt.

Re: 4x4 Front End Rebuild
i replaced all mine a few weeks ago while i was installing the lift. it's really not a hard job at all, just rent the press from a parts store if you dont have one. It's probably about a 6 hr job and yea it would be easier to drop it off, but where's the fun in that? Save the money you would pay in labor and use it on some Moog ball joints.

Re: 4x4 Front End Rebuild
I did mine after asking around at shops. I think they wanted well over $500. That's how much I paid for the truck. It wasn't too hard. I have since done them on my Honda as well. x2 on renting the press.

Re: 4x4 Front End Rebuild
get the press, makes life way easy. the ball joints take less time than rippin the hub, spindle and all that out...oh and make sure sure you get good ones (moog) and index the grease nipple so you can get at it...oops! lol

Re: 4x4 Front End Rebuild
I've gotten about 5 quotes all $1000. If you've done any sort of ball joint replacement then it'll be easy.
