going back to original style oil filter, whats needed?

Previous owner installed screw on adapter and i want to return it to original type oil filter. What do i nee to remove? What do i need to install original type filter canister?

Assuming it is a v8 the early sbc had a cannister with a recessed bottom and a long bolt. The part that mated to the engine was notched for a rubber gasket that was a pita to install and keep sealed. It would roll over or if you over or under tightened it, it would leak. Take a close look at the engine mating surface to make sure it is not messed up and the reason for the conversion. The long bolt tends to weep too. Unless you are going for a 100 pt restoration I'd keep the spin on conversion. I always convert mine at the first oil change. Bonus is you can run larger filters (up to 2 quart versions for commercial trucks) if you have the clearance. I also assume that the new spin on filters work better than the old paper element type.

A larger oil filter would be nice, whats the oil filter number for the 2 quart? what did the original hold?
