standard u joint yoke on 76 np205
Im looking to take off the flange on my np 205 and replace it with a yoke so I can run a single cardon front driveshaft. Is there a stock yoke that I can pull off something else or just go buy? I put on a 6" lift and ended up taking the shims off the front springs because the truck wandered so bad and even with the shims the angles still werent right for the cv shaft. Without the shims it looks like a standard single cardon shaft would be ok.

The yoke is 10 spline and the the flange is 30 spline, I think, Dont quote mo on that. I dont think Chevy made a fine spline yoke for the front of the 205.

Re: standard u joint yoke on 76 np205
it may be a rear yoke i got it in my shop on the gear from a 205.
Front Output GM used two front output shaft configurations, one had a spline count of 10, the other was a 30 spline. 10 splines came before 1977 (roughly) 30 spline shafts came after 1977 (again, roughly). One quick way to tell them apart is by the fact that 10 splines came with a 1310 series yoke output, capable of accepting a CV or yoke driveshaft. 30 spline shafts came with the flat flange on the output, capable of accepting the GM 3R series CV joint. The 10 spline output will accept the stock 1310; Or a separately purchased 1330 or 1350 Spicer u-joint yoke, and the 1310 CV yoke. The 30 spline flange will accept the 1330 or 1350 CV joints. Rear Output The most popular version Is a 32 spline shaft / fixed yoke and will accept a 1310, 1330, or 1350 u-joint yoke, and the 1310 CV yoke. |

Re: standard u joint yoke on 76 np205
I'll have to get under there and pull the front shaft and see what I actually have. I know its a cv shaft so im assuming I have the flange. The t case is dated 12 75. If you have a yoke that would work for me in good shape I would gladly trade. I also guessing the seal is the same between the flange and the yoke? And the stock 76 44 front shaft uses 1310 series joints?

Re: standard u joint yoke on 76 np205
Been there done that but in reverse. If you currently have the newer 4 bolt flat flange front out put and you want to go to the older u-joint yoke you will have to replace the front out put shaft also, they have different spline counts as others have said. There were some after market 30 spline yokes made at one time but no longer. You would have to find someone that had one sitting around. I myself prefer the flat flange style, it's easyer to install & remove the drive shaft. But you would have to have a front D-shaft made up.

Re: standard u joint yoke on 76 np205
Im not even sure what to do now. I spent a half hour on the phone with a guy from tom woods last night and he pretty much told me a single cardon shaft wouldn't work up front. I have a 6" lift and he said the angles would be too much. The angles arent't even close to working with a cv shaft though. I have no desire to cut the steering knuckles off and weld them back on. I figure a single cardon shaft will be unhappy with ecessive angle but a cv would be downright pissed off. I can live with a little vibration in 4wd on the highway when it snows but knocking and banging and the truck feeling like its going to come apart, no thanks.
