Serpentine belt set up??

Has any one found a system that can be removed from a stock chevy and bolted on ?? Without running a reverse flow pump rad etc? I would like to get away from the V belt system.. I looked at a early TBI truck that should work but I have not tried it..

WHo knows maybe can add A/C later LOL

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

all serp. systems make the pump turn an opposing direction to a v-belt system. no need to change radiator just make sure u use a pump from a serp system so 86ish and up. tbi on up to 99 vortech will all work on any small block with accessory holes in front of head so like 72?ish on.

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

Like the gentleman above said just about any SBC setup will work. Just go to salvage yard and take off the whole accessory drive. Be sure you get one off of a vehicle without smog pump etc, On Rock Auto they sell a AC delete pulley and then you can add a compressor later. If you look on Kwik Performance website they have plans to put a Sanden compressor on if you dont want the R4 compressor. Here is mine. SBC drive off of a 94 truck. (I have mine on a BBC)

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

Bought my set up on ebay for about $190.00 including shipping couple of years ago. Mine came with everything: a/c compressor, alternator, p/s pump and all the hardware. Sand blasted all the brackets and pulleys and repainted. Replace the alt, reseal p/s pump and install a a/c delete pulley. Check out my pic it looks brand new. You can pay for a new GM set up for about $1200 on Summit or Jegs. Check out this article: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...e/viewall.html

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

Either get a used set up off a 4.3 or 350 or go to a dealer and order part number 12497698 with a/c or a 12497697 without a/c

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

Well I was wrong the kit is 349 with the PS set up.. I amy just run the v belts for now and PC the parts I have. Spent a ton of money and need to stop with the upgrades as the v belt works fine. I just wanted to clean it up a bit. Well always a winter project when I install the new 9 inch rear end

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

I found my setup on craig's list for around $100. This was without the alt., waterpump, and p/s pump.

Does this setup bolt to the heads at all? I have camel humps goin on my motor with no acc. holes and rally would prefer to mount a serp. setup that doesnt bolt to the heads.

Yes the factory GM serp setup bolts to the cylinder heads. You might want to check out so aftermarket companies like March performance or Street and Performance.

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

So that is a metric pump, at least I would think so. The other issue I have is that I am already plumbed for the hydro boost and those line are made I know I can get a SAE to Metric adapter for the pump to solve that issue. Will a older alt take a new style pulley?? or would that have to be changed? Is that a long or short W/P ? Thanks for the info guys

greg65 Did you make your own p/s hoses to fit the metric fittings on the pump to the gearbox? Or did you use late model p/s saginaw fittings (o-rings) on the early style pump? Which p/s gear box did you install on your truck. Havent decided which way to go on mine...Thanks...

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

I am putting hydroboost on mine too. The fitting that screws directly into your old pump unscrews and threads right into new pump. Not sure if that is the question you were asking or not tho. And the adapters for BBC came from Kwik Performance. 139 bucks.

Re: Serpentine belt set up??

These systems are usually easy to score if you don't mind grabbing an entire engine. TBI trucks went serpentine in '89 I think. Same year cut over for F-Body's (Camaro / Firebird).
