I don't know the factory color code, but I have found that New Cat Yellow is pretty much spot on.

I got the rust-check stuff at Canadian Tire up here in Canada. You might try ordering New CAT Yellow through your local auto store or maybe ace hardware.

Re: 77 yellow trim

How about the black trim color? I need some for the window frame between the side window and the vent glass.
Thanks,

Re: 77 yellow trim

Thats good info right there. I tried to have it color matched and struck out. FYI the NOS pieces of trim I have are several different shades of the same color.

Re: 77 yellow trim

So don you take forever and tape it off or do you spray into a cap and brush it on?

Re: 77 yellow trim

Prep is 90% of all paint jobs. Take your time, be patient, and be meticulous with the tape edges.

I can't see a scenario where I would ever spray it into a cap and brush it on.

I taped off both the Diesel emblem and the bow tie in this pic to paint the yellow parts. I also had to tape the bow tie for the black stripe afterwards. Patience pays off.

Emblem Paint

Here's a tip that works for me when restoring the emblems on these trucks: Its was always been a challenge to match the faded matte mustard colored paint and make it look authentic. I found two methods that work well, one is going to a hobby shop and getting Testors Matte FI. Yellow #1169-RM11691_0611 and Testors Matte FI. Brown #1166-RM11661_0611. Mix these two colors evenly to a 1 to 1 ratio and you should have a great touch up for those 77 trim pieces etc. You can also thin it out and spray it from an airbrush.

If you don't have an airbrush, Kimball Midwest New Equipment Yellow #80-832 matches just as well but has a sheen, this works better if you are looking to restore to new. Kimball Midwest (800) 233-1294.

Re: 77 yellow trim

I just used 1971 ochre paint I have laying around, it is extremely close to the moldings.I just used it with a pinstripers brush after masking it off.

Re: 77 yellow trim

I needed to find this thread earlier. I finally gave up on finding that yellow paint. I settled for what I did in the following thread. Pics of my cab moldings.

Re: 77 yellow trim

The actual color of that '77 trim is GM Ocra. Not sure if there is an "h" in that word. It's an early 70's color.

Re: 77 yellow trim

Sometimes those old color charts are a little off. I've seen it plenty of times but that ochre is way off. At least we have the code here if anybody wants it.

Re: 77 yellow trim

Me being a sign guy (with a 77), I've found Oracal 951 series, color 820 Golden Brown is a pretty close match, if you're going the vinyl route. I've done all of my trim with it so far.
