60-66 rear bumper ideas
I'm trying to come up with an idea for the rear bumper on my 65. Anyone have an idea? Something you have been thinking about, seen somewhere, etc. Pics are a plus.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
The truck lays body on 22's and is getting 2 toned red and white.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
The coolest bumper idea I have seen was modified a bumper from an early 70's Camaro. I can't find the thread but it was a white step side with a rock music theme and the bed floor was made from licence plates.

Was it a front or rear camaro bumper?

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
The 67-72 fleetside rear bumper looks great on the 60-66 trucks, and if I recall, you can use the factory 67-72 brackets. It's got a nice factory look, just enough to make people look at it and scratch their heads.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
Flip the stock bumper over and run dual exhaust out the center where the license plate notch is.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
I've got one on my pc at our shop but not on my phone, I'll post one when I get back to that computer. It's just a flipped bumper though, doesn't have the exhaust going out the middle.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
I have been thinking about doing this, but I don't want the plate in the tailgate, and not sure I will be happy with a flip down mount... here is a pic of it, it looks great on a show truck that doesn't need a plate.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
I really like the 67 camaro bumper. It's understated but still looks custom.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
I kinda like that! Still can't think of a good way to mount the plate either. A powered flip down would be easy. But there has to be another way.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
I have a 67-72 bumper on mine with fabbed up brackets. Many people ask if it's upside down.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
So far i like the Camaro idea best. I plan on making a plate mount on the front of the bed just above the top of the bedsides so the back of the truck is all smooth.

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
I like that! Is that a Stepside bumper? Looks like the ends wrap around, aren’t the fleet side bumpers straight?

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
I use a Jeep bumper on the back of my 65. It is pulled up tight to the fenders and looks good. Probably a late 90's early 2000's Jeep. Sorry I don't have a picture. This is on a step side bed.

I like that bumper! A little rat rod, a little utilitarian. What did you make it out of and how did you attach it. Cris |

Re: 60-66 rear bumper ideas
Sorry Cris - I’ve been working in the arctic and didn’t see your question until today. I used piece of 5” x 3/16” flat steel and some 3/16 x 1” angle iron to make the bumper - welded in some dummy bumper bolt heads - 1/4” flat steel for the mounts - took, about 2 hours - painted it then wiped it off with thinners to get the aged steel look. Quite pleased with the finished product
