Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

I have been looking around and haven't really found a hitch for the 55-59 trucks, I have seen photos of Ogre's truck and he has one, and I think OrrieG has one too... but I am thinking about using my truck to tow (go figure, actually make my truck work??)
Anyone have any photos, or better, part numbers of hitches that are easily adapted to our frame rails? I am looking for hitches that come in JUST under the rear factory stepside bumper.

I used the search feature and came up with NOTHING...
Thanks in advance

It just clears the rear bumper. Tucks in at the front edge with 1/4" clearance.

Do you have a photo of it with the bumper in place? It kinda looks like the entire cross bar will show below the bumper.

Re: Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

I got an old DrawTite at a yard sale. I modified it for side mounting where it conflicted with the gas tank mounts. These are the fab photos, I like it because the frame tucks behind the bumper, all that stick down is the receiver. The wood and strapping in the photo with the bumper were just to jack it into place.

Re: Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

i've always made my own.
2'' square tubing for the insert, 2'' square pipe for the receiver.
mine is a little short, i have to pin it from underneath.
a truck with out a hitch is just a suv
so technically truk is still a truck

Re: Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

Cool, yea I have a 19' ski boat, and am just concerned about how much of my ass end is going to be in the water when launching... Might just stick to my 87' F250 workhorse for boat trips, but yea, a hitch is a must, as it adds real functionality. besides, I have to find SOME use for all the torque my poncho creates, other than speeding up the tire buying process...... hah.

Here is finished side photo of mine. I also like how the bottom of the side rail is even with and protects the tank a little from side impact in the boonies.

Re: Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

The bumper sits on top of the square receiver completely hiding the the rest of the hitch.

The receiver tucks in under the front edge of the bumper with 1/4" clearance.

Re: Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

How I got it, Loaded the rolling chassis with bumper installed on my trailer, drove down to the U-Haul company store and looked at all their receivers found what looked right and held it up to the chassis and Bingo !

It was about $120

So now we know that a U-Haul #75133 fits the 55-9 Chevy & GMC

I'm thinking of putting a plate on the end of the frame channel to prevent the lower rail from cracking.

Re: Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

The Reese 51097 hitch is 60 bucks cheaper and rated the same, fits '98 Venture / '57 3200. Class 3 but only 3500 lbs trailer weight, 350 tongue. I'm trying to find a heavier duty hitch that will work for us.

EDIT:
OK. The Chevy Venture is rated to tow 3500 lbs. Amazon will tell you that the hitch is good for 3500 on some hitches for the Venture, on others it will say "rated up to 10,000 lbs", still others say "ratings vary by application". So the gist of it is that a class III or class IV that shows up as compatible with the Venture, say, this beast this beast , will be good for whatever you want to attach to your TF. With my 4.8 & 4L60E, it's all I'm gonna need. Even acts as a cross member to some extent.

I'll take my tape measure and see of either of those will work on an AD truck. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Do any of you Task Force owners have a Trailer Hitch???

Chevy trucks had the same frame width for decades. I paid $3 for my Drawtite at a yard sale and they show up all the time on CL for $30-50 range. Most mount the same way, bolt to bottom of the frame. Most manf are the same design so they can compete for the same market. If they are manf. they are required to have a permanent tag showing max tongue and towing weights. No need to spend hundreds when some elbow grease and rattle can of paint will do.
