Pop,
I'm a little lost here, but that's nothing new. What kind of motor do you have, and what's in it like cam, heads, intake, etc. And why do they say you need an electric fuel pump to keep up? A good mechanical fuel pump will supply plenty of fuel, unless it's really sucking down some gas. Now, you say again, you were told to leave the old pump on it. Do you mean after installing the electric and bypassing the mechanical? Just to plug the hole in the block? If this is the case, no. Take the old pump off and use a block off plate to cover the hole. No use in having the pump dragging on the cam if it's not being used. One more thing, who told you this stuff? They might just be full of it. I will tell you as quick as I find out if they are a friend of yours.

Oh, and congratulations on the 34 years together. I hope you have at least 34 more.
