I had a thread a while back about the correct console color for my 1970 GMC, and thought I'd follow up with a photo of the reproduction steering wheel I just received from LMC.

Seems nice quality, but the blue is quite a bit different than the original... I'm assuming they use one "blue" for multiple different years or something similar.

In the photo, the lighter colored one is the original.

keep in mind the original is very, very faded - but I will say that the repro "new" one appears quite a bit darker than original factory blue - which to my memory is about halfway between the two you have, closer to your faded original though. Too bad it's cracked

But, the new one IS very nice, by the way - a major improvement.

All factory "correctness" aside... I think that the best looking setups are those where the steering wheel matches the column closest. In other words, if the paint on your column, etc match the dark blue of the wheel, I don't it will be as noticeable - but if you use the old faded column, it will stand out like a sore, well, steering wheel.

If you have tilt, which I assume you do not, the whole shooting match would have been black from the factory. I like black, just makes life simpler...

But blue (and red) interiors sure look sweet when they're all done! Can't wait to see your finished int.

501 is medium blue poly
508 is dark blue poly
510 is medium blue
Looks like to me you have a medium blue and a dark blue wheel there.

I love your buckets, and I see why you're concerned about the color. I'd prefer that it match better too. If you have a black column a black wheel would be a consideration.

Your old wheel actually looks pretty good, crack-wise, from some I've seen.

I'm not sure why LMC's wheels are the dark blue. It's painted,so they could have gotten the right color easy enough. I'd repaint it the correct color. I left the one I had dark because it matched my glove box door paint as well or better than the original medium blue

Chipflyer, i do not believe interior color choice is the same as exterior color choice - i.e. of you have a med blue, dark blue, or any blue exterior - I believe you had the choice of "just blue" for the interior If you wanted blue, that is). For example, I've never seen a "dark blue" interior color...

Cars in the 60's had multiple shade of blue interiors, but I've never seen it in trucks. Not saying it doesn't exist, just never have seen it. But pretty sure exterior paint color options don't have equivalent multiple (blue, for example) interior shades to go with them.

EDIT: Is there a thread that has an all-inclusive list of paint codes for specific years - i.e. NOT looking for another paint chip chart - everybody seems to have one, yet many of them are different or partial. Maybe this is an idea for a different thread - i.e. post:
- the "name" of your color from the sales brochure if you know it
- the "description" as it is worded on the SPID
- the code as listed on the SPID
- and a pic of the truck if it's still painted that color

Anyone think that is worthwhile? Or, I bet it already exists - pls direct me oh sage paint people.

Someone out NW has a dark blue NOS steering wheel for sale on here. Yes there are different blues that were available, I've had dark blue columns with dark blue steering wheels and dark blue door panels, I think it was a 69 if I remember right. I don't get into the number things, just what I see in all the trucks I part out

Not correct. Medium blue trucks had columns and interiors that were painted medium blue and dark blue trucks had dark blue columns and interiors that were painted dark blue. There were also at least 2 shades of blue for the 68-71 arm rests/door panels.
