Re: 63' C-10 / 427 motor mounts
If you use the original small block mounts, you will likely have firewall to valve cover issues. If you use the '67-'72 small block motor mount brackets, that will move the engine forward about 3", which will eliminate the firewall clearance issue. But I do not know which if any big block headers will clear the brackets. Another option is the '68-'71 big block motor mounts and brackets. These will position the engine in between the two previous mounts, and have clearance for headers or manifolds. Personally, I prefer the '73-'87 motor mounts. They are a much better design IMO, and if you get the motor mount brackets from a C20, they will fit better than the brackets from a C10. They will postiion the engine in aprox the same place as the '68-'71 BB mounts. Plus they are less $$ and easier to find. Check out protrash64's build thread on his Suburban. He installed a 454 in it using the '73-'87 mounts.
In my '66 Suburban, I built my own motor mount brackets on the crossmember, but I did utilize the '73 and up mounts and block brackets. I also used '73-'87 pickup headers. The top flange of the frame will need to be trimmed a little for header or manifold clearance. I typically use a '68-'87 frame as reference for the trimming. Now all of this is assuming you are going to run an auto trans. If you are planning on a manual trans. you will be better off converting to a hydraulic clutch.
