How to replace heater blower
I just read through all the threads I can find and I can't find an answer. I need to replace the heater blower in my 64 and I can't figure out how to take it out without dismantling a the whole unit. Is there an easy way to change this out?
I have the deluxe heater, by the way. |

Re: How to replace heater blower
These are the steps to remove and replace the deluxe heater motor, per the 1960 Chevy Shop Manual. I would imagine they would be much the same for the 1964:
1. Disconnect the electrical connections to the blower motor. 2. Remove the screws attaching the blower motor to the case. 3. Carefully pull motor and blower assembly down and out of the case. 4. Remove the blower drum from the motor and install it on the new motor. 5. Install the motor and blower assembly into the case and replace the attaching screws. Good luck.

What Markeb01 said.
Careful with over tightening the screw upon reassembly, they are easy to strip. If you have larger screws to replace the striped one, it's not that big of a deal. Sometimes they are hard to see to get your socket on. A mirror will help. |

Re: How to replace heater blower
Thanks for the advice and tip. I got it replaced and it works, but there is no heat coming out, just air. Time to start searching the forums.

There are 5 small screws on the bottom of the heater unit. You can get at them, just hard to see.

Re: How to replace heater blower
If you have deluxe, there should be a flapper in the heater box that moves back and forth when you run one of the levers. You should see a cable hooked to it as it comes out of the firewall. Have a helper run the levers as you watch. Either end of the cable could be un-done.Check that next.
