58-64 full size car, some were used earlier but idk what years, corvettes also used these. If it were a factory posi it would have a giant "P" next to the casting numbers like in this pic i borrowed from egay. Search for "P case" and you will see plenty of them for sale. The date code should read similar to C221 like this one on egay (1961).

Re: ?? what is this rear from?

The housing looks to be 58/64 as a couple of the guys said because you can see where the suspension brackets were cut off.

It would cost you a gasket and some gear lube but I'd just pop the axles out and drop the pumpkin out and take a good look at it. To see if it is a posi, what gears it has and what shape it's in. Then you will know where you are at on all three things.

Third members and gears got switched around in those rear ends on a regular basis so it may not have what it came from the factory with.

I did pretty much the same thing when I converted my 48 to 5 lug in 1973. I bought a 61 car rear end from a coworker for 10.00 complete, pulled it out, trimmed the brackets off with a torch at work and had my buddy weld the spring pads on at his place.
