I am wondering if I go to bare metal on my truck, will the rust cause it to get rotbody?
Was thinking of testing the tailgate.
how is faux patina done, is it a base coat sanded to expose metal?
Any advice or some who've tried it would be great.

Bare sheet metal left untreated will get surface rust very quick. Surface rust on bare metal will turn to severe rust with pitting within weeks/months. The pitted rust will turn to rust through after that. All depending on climate and humidity and exposures etc.

Faux patina is done usually by putting several different coats of paint on, then sanding down through the layers, to get the affect, then putting on a flat or low gloss clear coat. Atleast thats how I've seen it done.

I believe they put a dark brown bottom layer on to resemble surface rust, they don't actually have metal showing in the faux patina paint jobs.

But I'm one of those that think if you're going to paint it, it better look brand new and not like it's been sitting outside in a pasture for 20 years. There's plenty of those in the pastures if you want.

i have seen a few 72 and older with faux patina that look pretty cool.

have seen really bad faux patina were it looks like miltipul colors were painted on witha brush but this looks real, and really cool

"Trucks" TV show did a show on how to do patina a while back. You can probably buy the CD. PowerblockTV.
