Seatbelt

How does the seatbelt lock up? Is it based on the amount of force the belt is pulled from the reel, like every other chevy vehicle I can think of?

Because mine, I can yank and yank as forcefully as I want, but I've only got it to lock up a few times. And last time I went to the junk yard, I pulled on random seatbelts from these year trucks and suburbans, and couldnt get a one of them to lock up.

I can take any other chevy car or truck I have and yank the belt hard and it locks. But I can't get a single one of these old trucks to lock but maybe a few random times.

Re: Seatbelt

Could be a weighted locking device that swings forward under braking that causes the seatbelt to lock?? That would be independant of the force applied to the belt itelf.

My 87 locks when I slam on the brakes.

Re: Seatbelt

There is a weighted pendulum inside the retractor section that can swing to & fro. When you slam on the brakes it causes the weight to swing forward causing the belt to "lock up"

Re: Seatbelt

I'll have the truck out on the road for the first time this weekend, so I'll try slamming the brakes and se what it does. It just worried me that my belts wouldn't actually work.
I'll let you know what I find out in a few days. Thanks!

You may have to spray some WD40 on them to get them loosened up.
