converting door glass
hey anybody out there that can tell me how to take my vent window glass and hardware out of my 51 and do away with it all together. i have seen other trucks on the site that dont have vent glass in them and it looks nice. i removed all the guts of my doors for blasting, and will be getting them back next week, i need some guidance on what to do..... thanks for all the help gary

47/50 came with one piece door glass. 51/53 came with the vent window. On a 51 that has the turn down door handles I'd probably just change the doors to the earlier doors and be done with it.
The 51 and up doors have this metal piece that has to be cut out to clear the one piece glass. You can see on this 49/50 door how the metal channel that the glass channel runs in sets in the door. That metal piece is rather hard to come up with as they almost always seem to be missing from the doors. I don't have photos of the insides of the doors to see if the way the regulator mounts is different but the two glass setups do use different regulators according to the vendors catalogs. That could be a problem with the glass going up and down correctly unless the master plan calls for electric windows. |

you're better off getting earlier doors if you can,,,if not , I did it in my build and do a search...there are a few others whodid great conversions..actually pretty easy now since they repop the channel..

And you will also need the 49-50 window molding,Without the notch for the division bar.
Like Skip said it isnt that hard. |

well thanks for all the help im going to have to use my original doors my budget wont allow me to get new ones. i will take my chances and try to convert the old ones.. really appreciate the pics man thats awesome. hope it wasnt too much trouble for you gary
