Inner fenders bolt to tabs at firewall

No matter what I adjust, I find the Inner fender lowers where they bolt to the mounts on the firewall are not even close to being centered.Original inner fenders rad support.
These are driver and passenger pics on my project,so has anyone else ended up here,or is this normal ?

Please post some pics and opinions on this.

Thanks in advance.

Ed.

Re: Inner fenders bolt to tabs at firewall

I had the same problem on my stock stuff also. Not sure why. I moved around the cab on the frame and shimmed up my rad sup, but only got a little closer. Then i took it back apart(no pics). I will have to deal with this later. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some info. Im suscribed!

are the front cab mount rubbers collapsed?
also the rubber washer that fits into the fender well will go off center a bit, I think it is set up that way to allow for some adjustment..

what year are those inner fenders off of? I believe that some of the early years that bottom mount was removeable, not that it should make any difference.

Re: Inner fenders bolt to tabs at firewall

It has been quite a while since I have bolted up some inner fenders, but it seems like the bolt hole was not perfectly centered in the inner fender hole. Although I don't recall them being quite that far off. Nonetheless, if the inner fenders are up against the firewall, and if you have mocked up the outer fenders and they fit from the grill panel to the door, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Of course that is providing the rubber grommet will allow the bolt to pass thru and engage the threads in the bracket. Hope that helps some

Anyone want to submit a photo or two of your inners at this mount....? Id appreciate it.I might cut and shorten this area 1/4 " for better fitment.

Here is a pic of one that has never been off and it is close but the inner fender is not tight against the firewall.

Re: Inner fenders bolt to tabs at firewall

I had to drill the spot welds out on mine, and move the hole over, then weld up and smooth the drilled holes and open area, then a die grinder for the hole on the other side to match. Mine are repos though. The rubber bushing and metal sleeve that the bolt goes through will move a little, but not a whole lot. It still has to be reasonably close to the middle. I'm suprised the fenders that the General made, have this problem also. Hmmm. I'd say get the inner fender where it is happy, mark, and move the hole over. Not a nice job
