Brake Booster/MC location info....
Ok I have been looking at getting the replacement under cab setup that adds a booster. But lately after looking at a bunch of build threads and stuff I have seen a bunch of people locating them else where, firewalls and under the dash mainly. Is there a good reason for this other than creating space along the frame rail? Does it hang low enough that it could drag on lowered trucks?? Im only going to have one exhaust pipe (turbo) and its probably gonna run down the passenger side so the space is not a concern but the the clearance is. Im not slamming the truck but its gonna be lower than stock by quite a bit.
Just trying to get an idea so that if need be I can take an alternate route. Thanks in advance fellas C |

There is nothing wrong at all with the frame mount set-up. Only thing I remember off hands is you need a special proportioning valve for constant brake pressure and some clearance issues with exhaust and trans crossmember clearance which honestly isn't that bad an issue.
No mine doesn't hang low at all. It's flush with the frame rails and I plan on slamming my truck. I like them better because it hides the whole system for a cleaner look and engine bay.

My thoughts exactly man, I like how clean the firewall looks without all that crap on it. I am trying to figure out where to run all the wiring right now so that you dont see any of it, thinking about bringing it in through the floorboard and mounting the ecm behind the seat.

I am also running the progressive cross member kit that incorporates the booster/MC so Im notworried about clearance with the cross member.

I'm the kinda guy that loves little detail stuff. It all adds up in the end. I'm also gong for a simple clean install. I ran all my wiring for the front under the fender well and under the hood latch support panel. I drilled a hole in the lower corner near the driver vent to send the harness up front. Worked ok but to big a bulge to cover up. I'm thinking of going higher on the the side level with the dash for next time.
For the engine I plan on mounting the ecm inside just like you and drilling a hole low on the firewall near the trans tunnel hidden behind the motor. Good deal on the crossmember.

Mine is even with the bottom of the frame rail too. I made my brackets.

One is the bolt in M/C and booster from TCI in a '52 sub and the other one in in a '57 truck also from TCI

Nice, lookin good fellas. Thanks for the info, I think I will be sticking it under there. Like i said I would like that clean firewall appearance especially since the rest of the engine bay is going to be pretty busy.

i run an 03 mustang hydroboost under the floor on my 58
home made everything, $100 junkyard hydroboost after some problem with a leaky caliper, i found a remote reservoir to add to the system and yes, i like a clean firewall

You know I thought about Hydroboost, especially running a turbo motor. I was under the impression that the pump for a rack and pinion steering wouldnt put out enough pressure to run a hydroboost.
FWIW I Run a ported hydroboost in my rock crawler and it will lock all four up QUICK! |

If your experienced with hydroboost, I'd use it.

I am a hard core proponent of keeping the master cylinder under the floor even if you have to work around it a bit on some applications. The main reason is not having the clutter on the firewall.
I had a hydroboost on the 77 Chev 1 ton 4x4 that I had for a few years and that truck had the best feel to the brakes of any truck I have ever owned. I'm seriously thinking about putting that setup on the 48. |

I have the TCI Bracket in my 56, only problem I have is the mc leaks all the time. It called for a mustang unit, I have swapped it out twice, same problem. Any clues on what is going on?

cheap rebuild units. after the caliper leak i ran the rear dry and it caused the mc to go bad. took 3 rebuilt units to get one that would bleed and wouldn't leak. if it a newer mustang mc, look at my built for how i put the remote fill on my 03 mc. same mc 01 to current i believe.

i got the cpp frame mount set up on my 59, its super crowded next to my trans crossmember. gonna order a remote reservoir kit cause i dont want to hack my floor up and dont want to always go under the truck to check the fluid level

yes, the remote reservoir came from a nissan quest. same as the mercury villager i believe.
the hydroboost was in the cobra, the had a bigger motor and the gt vac booster wouldn't clear it. i found the remote fill option on a factory five site, they use the same mc stuck way under the fender the f5 guys couldn't figure out how to use a fill bottle as for the mount, all custom (home made). i just start cutting and welding. i made a 3/8'' mounting plate that blends with the frame boxing, so the whole thing unbolts
