My New '65 Short Step

Picked up a '65 short box step side from the Washington state desert. This is the cleanest truck I've ever seen, not a single rust hole to be found! Not sure if I can get the pics to work.....

59000 miles, original "orange" paint, 6 cyl, 3 in da tree, no options. The guy is delivering it to my door on the 23rd for cost of gas (300 miles).

Re: My New '65 Short Step

It’s mind boggling there are still rust free original trucks out there to be found when so many have nearly rusted away. Even the tailgate looks nearly new. Great score!

Re: My New '65 Short Step

Found it in Pasco, Tri-Cities area which is pretty dry arid country.

The guy will trailer it up and drive home empty, ha ha.

Plans are:

5 speed conversion
Disc brakes
Lower it a couple inches
Power steering
Maybe some rally wheels, not sure yet.

Paid just over $5k which is not bad considering a rusted out POS here is $3k.

Re: My New '65 Short Step

Did they not have the SPID stickers in '65? Nothing in the glove box. I'm curious if the truck has even a single option.

Thanks for all the comments!

Re: My New '65 Short Step

I'm awaiting a phone call to meet the truck at the US border to do the paper work and pay the taxes. Should have this baby home later today and will put up some pics.

I'm like a kid the night before Christmas!

Re: My New '65 Short Step

I live in Seattle and I am amazed the guy drove it from the Tri-Cities to the border. Which crossing? Either way that is a long haul and just for the price of gas!! Corner to corner you couldn't travel any farther.... Nice find!

Re: My New '65 Short Step

My bad, I thought I read West Van, BC....still you scored big and the guy practically drove border to border for gas money.....

Re: My New '65 Short Step

Well, I got home with the truck. Got hassled by The Man at the border. Guy must watch Barrett Jackson. Thought I was fudging the declared price.

Drove it around the city a little. Drives great, better than my Rubicon. Needs new shocks, still has the original spiral shocks on it. The shifter is a bit of an adventure at times! Never drove a 3 speed before.

Found the build sheet folded up with the original registration from 1965. I'll get that scanned and post it. Only 2 options: Thrift Air Heater and Heavy Rear Springs.

Time for hockey and beer!

Re: My New '65 Short Step

Outstanding! Glad it arrived okay in spite of the hassles. Those column shifters were a bit of a challenge even when new, and they don't generally improve with age.

How much did they get you for on the GST? I have often wondered about taking a car over the border...
