Disc brakes with stock wheels
Hi guys! So I was thinking about upgrading to disc brakes and I found a kit on Classic Industries from CPP that uses 73-87 2" drop spindles and 12" rotors.
So my question is if I can use my stock 15" six lug wheels without any problems with this kit? http://www.classicindustries.com/tru...ts/bk2025.html Thanks! |

Re: Disc brakes with stock wheels
No. You cant use the stock steelies. They do not have the proper back spacing to clear the calipers. You will need to find early-mid 70's steelies to make it work. I found mine on a 73 or 74 blazer 4wd truck. They look the same and will except all the stock hardware (hubcaps, trim rings). Ive got some pics somewhere...They will have 4 bumps on the front of the rim, as opposed to the 3 bump drum rims.

Re: Disc brakes with stock wheels
Skip the 73-87 kit that CPP sells.
There is no need to convert to 73-87 spindles. EVERYONE now make 63-70 "conversion" spindles,... including CPP. (They even make 60-62 spindles for the torsion bar trucks). I don't know why they keep selling this kit. There must be a HUGE amount of profit in them, by making you switch balljoints and tie rods. They need to quit it. Go to www.performanceonline.com and buy 63-70 spindles for $229. Summit Racing has CPP "direct fit" 63-70 drop spindles for $219. ($238 for the 60-62 version) http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLP-CP4S2/ Just say NO to the 73-87 conversion kits. Big waste of money!

Re: Disc brakes with stock wheels
Thanks for the answers guys! If I can't use my stock wheels I don't think I'm going to upgrade to disc brakes and drop spindles.

Re: Disc brakes with stock wheels
Im converting to disc brakes and using the newer rims I showed in the pics above. You can't tell the diference unless you sit there and study them. The newer rim has a slightly longer and shorter slot. But, they do except my 63 hubcaps and trim rings so the truck will look the same w/disc brake. Here is a side by side comparison of the 3/4 bump rims

Re: Disc brakes with stock wheels
Yes, this is true. There was a set here for sale a few weeks ago...check the classified postings for parts for sale. They are still pretty easy to find here in the US, just have to pay the shipping. They were used for several years and normally run $20-50 each. Although I got my last three for $40....good find.

Re: Disc brakes with stock wheels
They are available in 15x6 and 15x8. 6" more common though. I hunted around for a set of these til I finally gathered em all and pc'ed am and tucked them away in the guest bedroom for a future disk swap.... Wish there were more of these kind of wheels available - but if you watch the ads on here you'll find em. Also can ask for josh or gus at hubcaps.com - they sometimes have them also. I've had good luck with these guys - some folks have not.
