Steam Line help...
I'm trying to figure out the best place to drill and tap for the steam line fitting in the new water pump for my 5.3. I've seen most tap into the "bubble" near the upper neck (mine has no bubble), and also have seen some tap into the water neck on the thermostat housing... What do you guys suggest with the Pump pictured below?

Route it to the radiator tank like GM intended, Drilling a hole in that new water pump will void the warranty.
Any good radiator shop can solder a 3/8" brass hose barb in the tank, Im guessing your using the original Brass/Copper radiator? |

I will be using a new alum rad., elec fans. Should I just have them add the fitting when ordering then??

I got a Griffin radiator this week for my 65. It is set up for LS engines with the 1-1/4 inlet moved to the passenger side and 1-1/2 outlet. It came with a 1/8" pipe bushing welded into the top tank for the steam line. The LS1 book put out by GM says to route the steam line to the highest point in the coolant system, top of the radiator tank.

Induction is of no consequence. The LS cooling system needs to be able to purge steam pockets. Since there is no coolant in the intake, the highest point of the system is the front of the cylinder heads; steam lines give it place to evacuate.

I took my aluminum radiator to the shop and had them add a 1/4" nipple to the top tank.
