I agree but spend the money on a ididit or flaming river, I bought a CPP for a 36 project and it was junk, there is a reason it was a $100.00 cheaper

Re: Aftermarket Steering Columns

So, what makes it junk? I have a flaming river in my 67 mustang and I would say it was poorly designed. I had to make modifications on the tilt portion for the tilt lever to line up with the bucket/ housing, and after driving a few hundred miles, there is slop in the universal for the tilt( very irritating) and I paid top dollar for it. So, I'm looking at eBay stuff and willing to take a chance. Plus convincing my husband that I need a 5- 600 column? Plus a 150 steering wheel?
Just curious, but not ready to buy at this moment. Besides they're probably all made in the big C.

Re: Aftermarket Steering Columns

Ididit is the way to go period. The only reason is they are only company who offers a lifetime warrantty on all of there columns. They have the same warrantty for there chrome or black powder coated to.Yes Ididit and Flaming river are more money than the other columns that showing up everywhere. But you need to ask yourself something would you put a Honda motor in your chevy truck.I know the answer to this no you would not so buy a USA made column with a lifetime warrantty you buy once and never again.

As always we are a major delaer for IDIDIT and we have some great deals for all of the members here on this forumn. The lenght for your truck a column from 28-30-32 will work the best

Re: Aftermarket Steering Columns

Mines a 34 inch "Chinese River" knockoff of a Flaming River one. Mate bought it on a recent trip to the USA. (Straight 40 Ford style column & bit was US$135 and the "street rod" tilt one was under US$200)

Our truck has a Jag IFS & steering and the column fits nicely.

If I had no new parts that came from China, then I wouldnt have too many new parts on the truck. Its just the way it is, and the Chinese will build anything to a price.

They can also build some incredible stuff if you want to pay "retail", but the main reason we get the el-cheapo stuff is that the importers recognise that most all of us are cheap, and they price to meet the "cheap market".

Re: Aftermarket Steering Columns

I know this thread had greatly deviated from laid outs original question, but has helped me greatly in decision making towards the purchase of my column and other related stuff! I bought just about everything I need for the column from Justin @ Scottshotrods. I was reluctant at first cause I know it was going to be a substantial purchase, but I'm happily pleased I did, cause Justin really knows his stuf and gosh, he is really nice and patient and kind of reads my mind cause sometimes I have difficulty explaining myself; ). And I do like new stuff!!!
Now, just one less thing I have to think about!!!

Re: Aftermarket Steering Columns

I have a Flaming River column in my 53 & a CPP in my 59. They both look great. However, the CPP falls very short. The top isn't cut straight. So when turning the steering wheel there is metal to metal contact, which doesn't sound very nice. The CPP also feels cheap, there's some play in the column and feels like your about to break something when you use the tilt. I have zero gripes about the Flaming River column. If your not planning on driving the vehicle very much, then a CPP would work.
