Disc brakes

I was wondering does anyone make a master cylinder that I can use on my 57 under the frame. I bought the whole kit from CPP and the master has a power booster and will not fit under the frame where it should. exhaust & trans are in the way. I really don't want to put it in the engine compartment so i figure I would go with a non power booster for the front discs. Thanks for any help.

There are guys here that mounted them farther back and made a linkage.

Another option you have is a hydroboost unit. They are much smaller then their vacuum counterparts.

I can't remember who's build thread it is on but there are a couple of trucks with the mastercylinder & booster mounted a ways back on the frame with long (and stout) push rods to work them.

If you are running power steering to begin with the hydro boost suggestion is a good one as they don't take up as much room and have a great feel as far as pedal.

Wasn't there a thread on that a while back? I think I remember seberal pics in the same place. I just cant find it.

This is in a '56 chevy and as you can see it clears everything great.. It's from TCI. hope this helps..

Looks like you have to install a trap door to access the master cylinder cover pictured above? There are late model masters which use a single point twist cover and might be fitted so they can be filled through the original access hole. 99+ S10 is one application that I can think of.


Hydroboost is ok. I've installed one in my '95 Blazer. One warning is that all hydroboost master cylinders (at least for GM) have the same size bore and it's pretty large. The pedal applies really high, but the brake effort can end up higher than expected.

That looks alot like a early VW bug remote, which is what I have been using, you have to drill a tap the MC to attach the lines.

Hope these help... and i never have to cut a hole in the floor to add fluid..it's clears the bottom of the floor so you can put in fluid using a squeeze bottle

i just posted this in another brake thread, look in my build thread if you need more pics.
i like the hydroboost for it's stopping power with my weak legs.
if you use the mustang hydroboost you can install a remote reservoir from a nissan quest.

look at orrieg's build he moved the mc back to clear other obstacles too. look at his build for more ideas.

I have the same kit from CPP, and don't have any issues with clearance either, so I am not sure what probs you are having, can you post some pics? I know you must use a different trans crossmember other then the stocker, and I have headmen hedders and just ran the exhaustt as shown in the previous pics.

the frame on a tf truck is very high above the rockers
the exhaust on these trucks hangs under the frame
any brake upgrade will be in the frame
lots of room under these trucks

and even if you have to modify the exhaust
if you can't handle an exhaust modification
you probably shouldn't be working on a brake modification
