She ran hot, slowly burnt her valve stem oil seals..

91/92 burns slower thus ritcher.

Corn fuel or fuel with corn in it burns quicker and hotter, think of it like this:

2gal of corn fuel= 1mile
1gal of fuel=1 mile

Fuel with less corn is better. Corn fuel takes more to produce the same about of fuel power.

No. I can guarntee it will run better! And better mpg. Do a google on the slowly degradeing of unleaded fuels in america, theyve been "watering it down" with corn for years. Ur truck on 91 would be like a cheap beer to a fine wine!

No it will not negatively effect u in anyway. If anything youll notice u dont have to give it so much throttle to get goin( hense more efficent)

If u try the higher octane ull love it. Dont waste ur time on the mid grade 89

Use 91/92 76's brand if possible. Ull never go back.

I don't think you need the high octane, just real gas. Most gas in places around here are either 100% ethanol or 10% mix ethanol with 90% gas. When I fill up my old square I go to the station that serves 100% real gasoline. In my newer truck (05) I run a tank of real gas through every 3rd tank. If I drove very much at all in my new truck I'd use all 100% gasoline as the fuel mileage is noticeably better. But with just going through a tank of gas every 3-4 weeks the cost savings for the 10% ethanol is fine with me. The real gasoline is usually .20 to .30 higher per gallon here. If I remember, real gas here is $3.45 for 87 octane and 10% ethanol/gasoline mix is $3.18 a gallon.

Sorta reminds me of back in the 70/80's when my dad would yank the catalytic converter off his company cars so he could run leaded gasoline in them.

Good freaking god. I just paid $4.47 for premium with 10% ethanol. "Real" gas is almost non existant here.

Octane does nothing for your engine unless your engine is built for it. If your engine runs fine without pinging on 87 octane then going to 92 is not going to change anything. You will not get better mileage unless you make a change to the engine, like advance the timing or increase compression. A modern car will do that automatically as you drive, so they will get better mileage. Your old Chevy will not. Most small blocks in trucks are built to run on 87. If your engine is running lean and burning valves, then you probably need to adjust your carb.

Let me just make this point to ur post. What was the corn content when ur truck rolled off the floor? What is it now?

Octane dose matter, it will run ritcher without adj of timing thus running how it did back in 80whatever.

Go test it then say its not true, i have.

That is irrelivant considering my truck has had the engine replaced, how many are still on the road with their original engine?

That's complete bull ****. It does not run richer by running higher octane gas! If you want it to run richer you adjust the carb, not the timing!

I have, and you're full of crap. I don't have to test it to know these things, they are simply facts.

There are lots of reasons your engine might run lean and/or burn the valves. Octane is not one of them unless your engine is pinging.

Furthermore, CORN and OCTANE are two completely different subjects as well. Do you realize racing engines run on 100% ethanol? It has higher octane than gasoline...

not true you will and ive tested and tested get better milage with real gas or in 99% of the cases super cause thats what usually 100% GASOLINE, its only like a 1-1.5 mile a gallon difference but it does offset the higher cost and is ultimately cheaper per mile. and better for your engine, keep in mind ethonol is corrosive as well.

btw i run 93 in my 01 tahoe 5.3l it actually pings at highway rpms with out it. also on a side use super in your small gas engines 2 and 4 stroke or else youll wreck them.

Premium has the same ethanol content as regular unless you find a gas only pump. Yes, I already said you will get better MPG with 100% gas than 10% ethanol. You WILL NOT get better mileage by running premium vs regular. Not in an old Chevy anyway. Some modern engines yes.

To say something like "all engines need premium!" or even "all small engines need premium" is ridiculous and simply wrong. It all has to do with compression.

The REASON ethanol mixed gas gives you worse MPG and runs lean is because there is less BTUs in a gallon of ethanol vs a gallon of gasoline. There is LESS energy in a gallon of ethanol, but at the same time it is much higher octane. A gallon of 87 octane and a gallon of 92 octane gas have the same BTU content, thus will give you the same gas mileage.

Whether it makes sense to use ethanol at all or not is another completely different arguement to have.

Burnt valves and burnt valve seals have been happening way before ethanol was put in the fuel,So blaming ethanol for it is like blaming gm that your truck windshield has a crack.

There is a gas station (round S.C.) called stop-a-minit that has a "regular only, non-ethanol" pump with real regular grade gasoline. When I can, I go there to get my gas. Especially for lawn equipment. I've heard some other people say it ruined their lawn mowers and trimmers. Ever since ethanol gas came out, I've had cans of Seafoam handy to put in everything that was unfortunate enough to get ethanol gas.

Hell I ain't seen a Union 76 station in over 30 years!! Got Chevron(Standard) and Shell stations up here other than them it's the local watering hole Tesoro or Mapco/Holiday stations and thats all watered down LITERALY!!!

I use nothing but the Chevron Supreme myself and have noticed a BIG difference in mileage over the lower octane fuels they sell.

91 octane I get 375 miles to the tank (40 gallon tank) 90 v2500 burb.
Anything less than 91 octane and I only get about 265-300 miles to the tank.

A '91 burb has a knock sensor, it will automatically adjust the timing to prevent pinging as you drive. Most of the trucks here do not have this, and if you don't, you will see no MPG gains with any octane unless you make changes to your engine.

You would see a MPG gain going from 10% ethanol to 100% gas, due to the fact that it has more BTUs per gallon. This has nothing to do with octane.

If higher octane really gave you better MPG, then we'd all be running high octane racing gas and getting 20mpg. It's just not that easy.

This was over 2 years ago, 87 octane from arco.
Sense then been rebuilt and rejetted as well as new cam and tons of other things.

I love watchn yall fight. Hahah we all have our opinions and they are just that, opinions.

Still, i stand by it, 87 is really like 85 nowadays, e85 like 83...

E85 has an octane rating of around 110. I don't know where you're getting your information from, but its wrong.

I have never noticed any difference (mileage or power) using hi-test in anything,except high compression performance motors that require more octane. On those,I've never even tried using lower grade,so I haven't proven if there's a difference or not.
Carbs are adjustable for air/fuel mix and that's how you regulate lean/rich mixture. An intake leak can cause a lean condition at one cylinder bank causing one valve to burn.
