CORN GAS RESULTS (pics!)
This is what happens when u add corn to our fuels and make them run lean.

91/92 burns slower thus ritcher.
Corn fuel or fuel with corn in it burns quicker and hotter, think of it like this: 2gal of corn fuel= 1mile 1gal of fuel=1 mile Fuel with less corn is better. I don't think you need the high octane, just real gas. Most gas in places around here are either 100% ethanol or 10% mix ethanol with 90% gas. When I fill up my old square I go to the station that serves 100% real gasoline. In my newer truck (05) I run a tank of real gas through every 3rd tank. If I drove very much at all in my new truck I'd use all 100% gasoline as the fuel mileage is noticeably better. But with just going through a tank of gas every 3-4 weeks the cost savings for the 10% ethanol is fine with me. The real gasoline is usually .20 to .30 higher per gallon here. If I remember, real gas here is $3.45 for 87 octane and 10% ethanol/gasoline mix is $3.18 a gallon.
Sorta reminds me of back in the 70/80's when my dad would yank the catalytic converter off his company cars so he could run leaded gasoline in them.

Octane does nothing for your engine unless your engine is built for it. If your engine runs fine without pinging on 87 octane then going to 92 is not going to change anything. You will not get better mileage unless you make a change to the engine, like advance the timing or increase compression. A modern car will do that automatically as you drive, so they will get better mileage. Your old Chevy will not. Most small blocks in trucks are built to run on 87. If your engine is running lean and burning valves, then you probably need to adjust your carb.

The REASON ethanol mixed gas gives you worse MPG and runs lean is because there is less BTUs in a gallon of ethanol vs a gallon of gasoline. There is LESS energy in a gallon of ethanol, but at the same time it is much higher octane. A gallon of 87 octane and a gallon of 92 octane gas have the same BTU content, thus will give you the same gas mileage. Whether it makes sense to use ethanol at all or not is another completely different arguement to have.

Burnt valves and burnt valve seals have been happening way before ethanol was put in the fuel,So blaming ethanol for it is like blaming gm that your truck windshield has a crack.

There is a gas station (round S.C.) called stop-a-minit that has a "regular only, non-ethanol" pump with real regular grade gasoline. When I can, I go there to get my gas. Especially for lawn equipment. I've heard some other people say it ruined their lawn mowers and trimmers. Ever since ethanol gas came out, I've had cans of Seafoam handy to put in everything that was unfortunate enough to get ethanol gas.

Hell I ain't seen a Union 76 station in over 30 years!! Got Chevron(Standard) and Shell stations up here other than them it's the local watering hole Tesoro or Mapco/Holiday stations and thats all watered down LITERALY!!!
I use nothing but the Chevron Supreme myself and have noticed a BIG difference in mileage over the lower octane fuels they sell. 91 octane I get 375 miles to the tank (40 gallon tank) 90 v2500 burb. Anything less than 91 octane and I only get about 265-300 miles to the tank.

Thanks to all ur insight! This was over 2 years ago, 87 octane from arco. Sense then been rebuilt and rejetted as well as new cam and tons of other things. I love watchn yall fight. Hahah we all have our opinions and they are just that, opinions. I corrected this problem awhileago but thanks forthe tips yall! Still, i stand by it, 87 is really like 85 nowadays, e85 like 83... I have never noticed any difference (mileage or power) using hi-test in anything,except high compression performance motors that require more octane. On those,I've never even tried using lower grade,so I haven't proven if there's a difference or not.
Carbs are adjustable for air/fuel mix and that's how you regulate lean/rich mixture. An intake leak can cause a lean condition at one cylinder bank causing one valve to burn.
