Repairing Rust
I'm looking to fix some rust on my truck, is it better to completely replace the rusted area with sheet metal or would bondo do the trick?

Bondo will not do the trick unless you are going for ghetto repair.

Re: Repairing Rust
If you are looking to actually "Fix" the rust, I would replace the sheet metal. If you are looking to hide the rust, then bondo will do the trick. Patching the takes a heck of a lot more time but I think its worth it in the long run.

Thanks man! I figured replacing the metal would be best.

Re: Repairing Rust
If you want to fix it, cutting out and welding in new metal is your only option, sure you can bondo over the rust but that is nothing more than covering the problem. I can guarantee you that you will see that rust creep back shortly and now you're back to square one.
So to simply state; do it once, do it right and be done with it. |

Always think of rust as Cancer. You can cut it out and get a pretty good life, or you can take an asprin and pray, but it will return.

Re: Repairing Rust
Body filler is not a hole filler it will pop out later on,The right way is cut out the rust and weld in new metal. But the other option if you can't weld is panel adhesive most body shops use it on sheet metal it holds pretty good. But just don't use it on something like the frame.
