Vacuum Hose/carb help

I have this hole and a hose on the intake manifold behind the carburetor. I put on a new edelbrock carb and was having serious idle issues and it was running real bad until I found both the hose and this hole behind the carburetor. My old quadrajet used both of these vacuum lines on the carb but there is no place for these hoses on the new carb. Do I need to block these off separately or can I just route the hose back to the hole on the manifold... Itll make more sense in the pictures... The first picture I plugged the hose back up and the 2nd picture it is disconnected

Also I adjusted the idle and air/fuel mixture and it seems to run pretty good but when I rev the engine from an idle sharply a fireball pops up out the carburetor... Thats not normal is it? If it isnt, how do I fix it?

if that goes back onto it's own it's ok as long as no vac lines are open
your going to have to check timing,of course a vac leak afects timing

Will that fix the fireball that shoots out my brand new carb? Or is more fine tuning needed? It idles just fine but when i just stomp on the gas that's when the fireball shoots up. Is that what happens without the air cleaner being bolted on the top?

No, backfiring through the carburetor indicates a lean condition (starving for gas). If it starts easy, and runs well just idling, the timing is probably fine. You have a massive vacuum leak, or your accelerator pump shot needs to be bigger - more gas.

Once you fix the vacuum leak, set the idle mixture screws per the instructions that came with it (new carb right?)

You should be able to turn the screws in until they seat (LIGHTLY) and back them out two full turns. This should allow the motor to run pretty well. THEN - adjust the pump shot and mixture screws per instructions to get the best lean (but not too lean) setting.
