wheel alignment w/tubular arms 72c10
i haven't run onto any talks on this subject in searches. i'm still a little ways away from getting to this point in my build but i think about it often.
this is my set up but i'm sure the theory remains the same for just swapping parts: 72c10, 2wd, stock crossmember, tubular upper/lower, bags, drop spindles, in stock form the truck drove nice and straight when i took my front suspension apart, i labeled and bagged the shims for the uca's. i'll make sure not to move the adjustment on the rack. i'll just start by putting it back together the way it came apart. is this how you all are going back together with yours? how straight did it work out for you? i'm sure there are plenty of you that have worked at a tire shop. what all is involved in the alignment process? i don't know anything about this process, and i'm wondering if aligning these classic trucks or cars is easier or more difficult than modern vehicles. thanks for your input. daniel

Re: wheel alignment w/tubular arms 72c10
I think going back together like you are talking is the right move to start with. The alignment won't be right though, and the very first thing you'll need to do is decide on a ride height with your bags and take it to an alignment shop. The alignment will change based on ride height. You can usually get it close enough to drive to the shop on your own, just make sure the tire is standing straight up and pointing straight ahead(Zero toe, or slightly toed in). Trailering it to the shop wouldn't be a bad idea if you had a trailer available.
Aligning these trucks really shouldn't be any harder than any other car with double a-arm suspension. One thing that will throw you for a loop is if your frame is bent from a wreck in the past. Sometimes alignment shops will balk at aftermarket suspension parts, especially lowered stuff, so keep that in mind. It may take you a couple tries to find a shop that will do what you want. But as long as all the parts you have chosen are meant to work together, the shop should have no problem aligning it. Hope that helps.

Re: wheel alignment w/tubular arms 72c10
thanks. i'll start asking around and see if i can find someone good. having some random person tinkering under there makes me cringe. even the thought of them driving my truck from the parking spot into the garage makes my skin crawl. i may just be being picky.
