Scrapping Old Engines?
Hi All,
Just curious, What are you guys doing with your old worn out engines? If there was no core are you keeping them? disassembling and scrapping? Just curious I have a 305 and a 350 with spun rod bearings I need to dispose off, any ideas? I know the price of scap metal varies but is it worth the time for $$$'s Also , what's involved with scrapping, does it need to be completely oil free? Thanks Desert |

Re: Scrapping Old Engines?
If they are bare blocks, ask an engine rebuilder if they will take them off your hands. Free!
Otherwise, use a torch and welder and make a BBQ out of them! |

Re: Scrapping Old Engines?
Yea, I figured a machine shop would take the blocks , but I'm trying to do a quick garage cleanup and avoid the time an mess of tear downs.

Re: Scrapping Old Engines?
There is an engine builder in Phoenix that will buy your complete core, I would imagine a rebuilder in your area would do the same.
I sold two core engines for $100 each in one day on craigslist, a 327 and a 350, neither of them anything special and both in about as good of shape as yours...

If the 350 is a 4 bolt keep it, the rest is probalby smog and 305 is not worht keeping. Our boneyards will take them as scrap all day long.

Re: Scrapping Old Engines?
You can dump them fast on CL for $50 - $100 as cores. You won't get near that much at the scrap yard.
