Have some questions..

Ok so i am working on my harness to make a stand alone and i ran across a couple things.. The engine i have is out of a '04 and the harness is an '05 and i was looking to run the wires under the intake and saw that it doesnt have knock sensors in the plate under the intake..? And does it need them or can it be programmed without?

And the same with the 02 sensors, was reading up on it and some run them and some dont, what did you do?

Another, im running the wired throttle and is there a harness that goes from the pedal to the TAC module? I got the inside and out harness but cant find the plugs to plug into the pedal and the TAC for the life of me

Thanks

Re: Have some questions..

Are you SURE the knock sensors aren't there? My 6.0 had them under a little foam type piece under the intake, and it was the same year. I'm pretty sure you'd need to run them, and either way I'd think you'd want to. Knock sensors are a useful safety device and monitoring KR is good for avoiding detonation in tuning.

You have to run 02's, upstreams only. Downstreams aren't needed unless you are running cat's for some sort of emissions compliance. Without 02's the computer would run into problems adjusting fuel trims.

There should be a harness that goes from the pedal to the TAC, then another coming out from the TAC to everything else. I got an extra custom length one when I had my harness made, but I didn't use it because my TAC came with its own. It was for an 04 DBW truck. Let me know if you need it, as I don't have a use for it anymore.

Re: Have some questions..

I'm going to take the intake off tonight and see if the bosses are under the plate in the casting to be able to run them but they are not in the top of the plate like normal.

As I was following the instructions to rework the harness I pulled some pins for the 02's, they are 4 write and it only had me pull 2 of them, I wrapped up the wires and did not cut because I was not 100% sure.

I'm going to see if the truck I got the harness from still has it in there, if not I can sure put that one to use.

Re: Have some questions..

The knock sensors in my LS2 are in the sides of my block. It's an 07.

Ill look at that, thanks

I did find the harness for the TAC and pedal so that is a plus.

Re: Have some questions..

There should be 2 wires coming from under the intake, This is the knock sensor "jumper" harness on Gen III engines, If the knock sensors are on the side of the block....You have a Gen IV engine....& the harness you have wont work anyway.

05 & 06 LS2's are the exception to this rule, They are Gen IV but still use a 24X crank reluctor.....So you can run Gen III electronics on this engine. ALL other Gen IV's use a 58X crank reluctor.

Re: Have some questions..

Well i think i have a bit of a problem.. Im not sure the engine i got is the year they told me now. So now what? Guess i could get a plug and wire in the knock sensors thats if its what that is under the plate shown. No idea, i havent seen this type of setup before.

I wasnt expecting a Gen IV AFM engine.

AFM...Active Fuel Management. (Can shut oil off on certain lifters to kill cylinders).

The Harness you have will not work on this engine,

Ive never done a AFM Gen IV swap, I steer clear of them if I can because cylinder deactivation is a bad concept in my opinion.

Re: Have some questions..

well the downside is you got something other than expected, the positive is its a NEWER engine than ya planned.

You should still be able to use the engine but you'll have to change the harness etc. As for AFM, it can be deactivated but I'm not sure what else would wind up being different.

Your TAC stuff wouldn't be compatible iirc, since i thought the Gen IV AFM engines used the ECM that had TAC funtions built in.

Re: Have some questions..

I got a lead on one with just a long block no electronics or anything but it needs checked out and gone thorough, no biggie least I'll know what I have and that it will work with the harness i'm neck deep in redoing

guess I'll keep mocking everything up and when I pull it back down to finish the frame have it built and ready to throw in.
