Question 60-62 rear bag mounting

Hey guys Ive been gone a while but Im back on the train again. Ive been searching high and low for pics of trailing arm mounted bags on a 60-62 frame. Im planning on a 2" block but cant seem to find pics of rear bag mounted at about 60% of the length of the trailing arm on a stock 60-62 frame. Im more concerned with the upper bag mount and a good way to mount it. I was thinking of making a plate to bolt to the under side of the top lip of the frame to hold the top of the bag. Then a generic circle plate bolted to the arm for the lower (completley centered left to right) but Im not sure if this is a feasable mount setup or not. Pics would be great.

Regards, Mike.

It looks like you have both sides plumbed to a single line.
One thing I read in these forums is don't plumb the two bags to the same line, but have a separate line to each bag.
The reason was if both bags share the same line, and you're going around a corner, air will move from one bag to the other.
The bag with the load will just push air through the line to the other bag and you'll have a terrible lean.

I made that mistake on my 65 for both front and rear bags.. The air will move from side to side.. When I parked that truck, I would level it out by pushing up on the top of the drivers door and it would be level.

Re: 60-62 rear bag mounting

Thats basically exactly what I have in mind. Do you run any lowering blocks? If so what size? and how low does the back go? oh and what bags are those? Thanks for the pics btw.

Re: 60-62 rear bag mounting

umm they are 2 inch blocks I do not remember what the bags are I will have to go take a look and for how low it will go I don't know I still have the torsion bars up front for now but if I put bags up front it should get very close to the ground but the drive shaft will hit the cab so it will need to be cut to go lower.

Re: 60-62 rear bag mounting

Nice. It's kinda hard to tell but are your bags mounted next to the larger frame bracket for the bed? Nice too see your that low without blocks. Any frame or trailing arm clearancing?

Re: 60-62 rear bag mounting

I'm also looking for rear bag mounting options for the 60-62.
I was planning on mounting the bags in place of the coils, but I'm thinking the x-frame may create a challenge compared to the 63-66 frame.

Re: 60-62 rear bag mounting

Here is my bags mounted where the stock spring was.. I used the stock hole for the bottom, I think and drilled two new holes for the top. The air line is right where the frame rails come together. Its a little tough to get tools in there, but it works great.

I run about 50# of air in the bags and the ride height is good and the ride is soft..

THis is my usual ride height.

This is aired out.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions let me know.

Would you happen to have a pic showing how you routed the fitting out of the top of the bag?
I'm wondering how to route it around or through the frame there.

Re: 60-62 rear bag mounting

I don't think I have a pic of the lines. I used 90 degree push lock fittings and they are pointing towards the front. The air line goes thru the frame to the firewall area. There is a hole near the steering column where they come thru to the controls. The passenger side line comes across near the tranny cross member.
