Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
Do you keep it garaged or leave it in the sun? It sounds like you might be going all black interior, but, the ABS covers can warp in the strong sun/heat if left outside unless you over fasten and use lots of glue to bond to the old pad... Happened to my 79 Silverado in Massachusetts which was only outside parked for about 2-3 years, began to ripple a little around the right side trim plate with the heat/ac vents.... and it had a medium blue cover which wouldnt grab heat like black.

New carpet will do wonders. I used stockinteriors.com and I think it's the same manufacturer. The main supplier for a lot of vendors (and I also think LMC included) is "ACC". All the same manufacturer so call around to get the best price before ordering. It get's sent from ACC's factory anyways......

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
Thanks Ski,
Only thing is I live in Hawaii so I'm trying to get everything from the same place to keep the shipping down. About the carpet right now I have only carpet under the bench seat and like rubber mat up front where the driver and pass put their feet... do I pull everything or do I leave the rubber matting in the front and put the carpet over that? I'll try to take some before and after pics while I'm doing the inside. |

Dash won't fit perfect, might have to be trimmed like mine, bench seat cover is a PITA to put on not fun, but looks better than it did

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
Don't purchase from classic industries, garbage....I would go dash pad, cheaper, looks the same...heck I would use a dash pad even with a new dash to protect it

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
I'd just opt for a dash cover....pretty cheap. You just have to spend a decent amount of money to get the correct dash in there. The cheaper ones, I've heard, are pretty worthless......

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
Okay so I called LMC and canceled the dash cap... for 2 reasons it stays in the sun all year round and they took over 2 days and still no shipping quote for that piece... Everything else put on hold because of that.
So I ordered just a poly carpet dash cover for now... Like I said my dash ain't that bad but this will buy me some time to figure out if I want to do the whole dash. So I got these things on the way... Carpet, Selt Belts, Bench Upholstrey, Dash Mat, Vent Window Knobs, and some Precut Tint... That should be a good start to cleaning up the inside... I'll try to get some before and after shots along the way. Thanks for your help guys I sure am glad I posted this thread, and hopefully someday I'll be able to pass this advise about these square bodys on to someone as new as me... |

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
Get late model seats with integral seat belts from a junkyard.
Get better quality carpet from the big online upholstery vendors. Cover your new carpet with black exercise mat from Walmart to keep it clean. Use Huskyliner floor liners on top of the Walmart mats. If the door panels are in good shape, just clean and respray with SEM paint. Don't use a dash cap - get a local upholstery shop to recover your dash in vinyl. Have a local upholstery shop apply new fabric to your headliner (if applicable.) |

I'm thinking of putting a cloth dash cover on my 76, which is the older style that has a dash pad that curves down over the front of the dash. The reason I want to cover it is cause it has about a 6-inch round indentation in the middle/front that looks like it was caused by someone's HEAD hitting it real hard. The backing foam got crushed and there are a couple of cracks. I'm wondering if the cloth pad will hide this dent? I just want it to look decent, the rest of the interior needs a lot of work. Thanks! |

Re: Interior... Any tips I should know?
Oh yeah I chose not to do the dash cap... And just went with a Dash Mat cover... I got it on ebay for 37 dollars I think... It's poly carpet and yes it will flatten out, they give you velcro to stick where you need... I have out any of the velcro on yet. Just letting the sun mold it to shape first.

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
I appreciate the stock look in trucks. Aftermarket wheels are a turnoff to me. The PO in my truck got this cool aftermarket cupholder that sits on the middle of the floor of the truck its pretty nifty can hold lots of stuff. I'd look into finding one.

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
So you don't like my 20's huh... lol It's cool to each their own...
So I just got off the phone with LMC... On Monday I called to order parts, living in Hawaii I expect to pay a lot for shipping. Well they told me they needed a shipping quote for one of the items cause it was oversized (Dash Cap) 2 days go by and no phone call from they so I decide screw the dash cap for now... Call them and let them know I want to cancel the dash cap and want the rest of the parts... No problem pay for the parts and the shipping... (parts $404.80 and shipping $49.25) I was pleased with that... Today I check the status and it's says HOLD CUSTOMER SERVICE CALL... I'm like wtf??? So I call they tell me... They had to get another shipping quote... So now they want to charge me $70.00 more for shipping... I didn't really have a choice... I'm pretty PO'ed about this... They should get their **** straight the first time. Sorry had to vent a little... ;( |

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
Soak those seat belt attaching bolts with your favorite lubricant/penetrant before trying to break them loose. They are torqued to approx 10,000 ft lbs, and may require a special torx type bit.
I twisted every one of mine off and had to cut the weld nut from the floor. As a result I did the right hand side (where there was no fuel tank in the way) but didn't even attempt the LH side (where there was a fuel tank in the way). Original belts are still in there on that side. K

Re: Interior... Any tips I shuld know?
Why don't you take a look at Classic Truck Parts and see if they have everything you want from LMC?
http://www.classicparts.com/ If they do, call back LMC and tell them you would like to cancel your order because they originally quoted you a lower rate and now they decided to increase it. Basically, tell them you aren't happy already and you haven't even recieved the parts yet. Worth a shot. Also, echo the seatbelt comments above. Soak the bolts as much as possible. I replaced my rear Blazer one.....so hard. I basically ground off the bolt head to get the seatbelt from the junkyard. Then, when I went to unscrew mine....no budge. I ended up grinding it off, drilling out the bolt little by little, and then finally chasing the threads with a tap to clean everything up. Quite the effort for a few bolts!

That looks pretty dang sweet, but of course, I'm biased. Family owns several Harleys.
