1964 Chevy c10 Transmission gets stuck in gear?

Any ideas on why my transmission (3 speed manual on the tree) gets stuck in gear / or out of gear - I have to pull over and tap the gear linkage with a hammer to dislodge it and I'm back on the road????

I think your problem is worn bushings at the shifting forks . Pretty common problem on these old trucks . If your linkage checks out ok , then you can replace either the bushings or the column itself , or go to an aftermarket floor shift conversion set up .

I took a good look at the shifting linkages for revservse and 1st & 2nd and 3rd - the linkage for Reverse and 1st seems to have a lot of play in it - Are you referring to the bushings on both ends of this linkage?

I have the same issue with a 3 speed manual on the floor. If I dont shift just right I get stuck in gear. I bought these bushings but have not had the time to install them yet. If your issue is play in the shift linkage, these should tighten things up for you.

I have the same problem with my floor shifter (aftermarket installed by PO), my solution to this problem is the Camaro 5spd, with the S10 tailshaft that is going in this winter. Oh, sorry, that is not very helpful, my bad...

had the same issue with mine, just tightened up the linkage by loosening the end baring bolts and clamp and turned sleeve counter clockwised. Tightened it all up and shifts fine now. There a write up on it i will see if i can find and post it

Re: 1964 Chevy c10 Transmission gets stuck in gear?

Our local Napa had universal flanged bronze bushings for cheap that fit the linkage on the transmission side. They don't give any so the linkage can't get mis-aligned, which also gives the shifter a nice solid feel. They're oil impregnated bronze so they should last longer than you will.
